Our Loon Lake Advance

My name is Silas. I like to mountain bike, breakdance, write, read, bake, play music, and much more. I also like to hang out with my friends and family. I love learning new skills and meeting new people. When I get older I want to pursue writing by being an author or screenwriter. 

Silas’s Journey to Independence – My High School Blog

During the advance we did lots of Destination Imagination (DI) with our teams. Check out my blog for more info on DI. My team (Operation Unplanned) is an improv team so, naturally, we worked on our improv abilites. We also did a lot more research on our festivals. We even finished developing character roles. However, we weren’t able to do many successes full run-throughs of our challenge because of technical difficulties. I think that we had an otherwise successful few work periods. If I were to do DI during a retreat again, I would make sure to be more prepared. My team is getting much better at completing our solution, and I think we are going to be able to create a great skit for the appraisers.

These are photos of the stick fort I made with some of my friends. There was a challenge to see which team could make the best shelter. I was in a group with my friends Cameron, Keaton, and Mangnus. We used lots of sticks to make ours as big as possible. There was a lot of space inside the shelter. We could fit about 6-7 people comfortably on the inside. It was also fairly waterproof. People liked our shelter and we won. If I were to do it again I would make sure to fill every little gap. I would also focus more on gathering sticks at the start of the challenge.

This is a photo of me doing battle archery. When I did battle archery, I had to show my teamwork skills. I showed this by communicating with my teammates to tell them where they could get arrows and where to fire. I also had to listen to my teammates when they were telling me these things. We also had to collaborate when creating our strategy. When the plan wasn&apos;t going as expected we needed to work together to think of a new plan on the spot. My team ended up winning one game, but losing the other. We tried our best and had lots of fun. I am happy we got to do battle archery.<br/>

On this day we learned about different types of readiness. We learned how to be ready for now, ready for future, ready for change, and ready for anything. This lesson taught me to constantly ask myself if I’m ready to do somthing. I also learned that the phrase “are you ready?”, has a lot of different meanings.

Loon Lake Field Study

I heard there was a gym at the resort. There are a lot of talented grade 8s. I am excited to beat the grade 9s in a game.

I think we will learn about nature because Loon Lake is surrounded by dense forests.

What I Learned at Loon Lake

In future field studies I will remain ready for anything, open to learning new skills, and open to trying new skills. I am excited for the next PLPfield  study, and hope it will be as fun as this one.

One place I found beautiful so far at Loon Lake is the lake. It is crystal clear and vast.

This is a photo I made in SuperimposeX today when we learned how to use it. I took a photo of the lake and a bunch of photos of my friends and I and merged them together. In our lesson about SuperimposeX, I learned how to use the layering and masking tools, as well as a couple of others. We learned about SuperimposeX because of our humanities project that also involves this app. I had a lot of fun playing around with it, and I think I got the hang of it.
