What is ITTE?
Initial Teacher Training & Education (ITTE) is a course that shows you the skills that schools are looking for in a early career teacher.

Working in conjunction with the University of Derby and two placement schools from the local area, the successful completion of the course will lead to the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), 60 credits towards a masters and a Teacher Reference Number (TRN). The course is full time and lasts one year.

The benefits of training with DTSA
DTSA is a broad and inclusive alliance of schools and partners, part of a not-for-profit Charitable Trust. We are working together to train the next generation of outstanding teachers through the University of Derby.

DTSA has been providing ITTE training for over 10 years. Our programme is led by subject specialists who are Fellows of the Chartered College of Teaching (FFCT).

All of those involved in DTSA ITTE are totally committed to giving Beginner Teachers (BT) the very best support and training. The main advantage of applying to the DTSA ITTE Primary programme is that our close partnership with the University of Derby offers a broad range of school experiences combined with high quality academic input and access to library resources.

The benefits of training with DTSA
• There are well-developed links between schools across Derbyshire for trainees who want to work in Derby and its surrounding area, so we understand the unique challenges our schools and children face. With the diversity of our partner schools and the relationships we have with other schools in the city, we can support training in areas of EAL and SEND.

• A general professional education programme that offers experience across schools for further depth.

• The opportunity for good and outstanding trainees to gain experience in a second subject area during their final term of training if they wish; enhancing their employability and matching curriculum needs of local schools.

• A ‘buddy’ programme of peer support and critical friends that will sustain you beyond your ITTE year.
• We will ensure that each trainee is allocated an excellent mentor in their host school. Mentors attend regular network meetings to ensure they keep their skills up to date and for them to share good practice. Your relationship with your mentor is key and we carefully monitor the quality of mentoring including taking feedback from trainees on the programme
