The Amazon Rainforest may look majestic and magical, which it is, but there are also great dangers and things to watch out for! Prepare for clothes to wear, pack equipment, know how to build a shelter, identify food and watch out! The rainforest is ready to be explored...
RAINY

- You'll need a raincoat, and as the name suggests,it rains a lot! This will help keep you dry, as it is waterproof.

- Wellie boots are very useful for rainy days. They keep your feet dry. They are good for walking in puddles or trekking through ponds.

- You will also need other waterproof clothing, such as pants. Any top should be fine, as it will be under your raincoat.

WHAT TO WEAR

Clothing is important anywhere, but when you're in the Amazon Rainforest, you need to expect any weather! The Amazon gets tons of rain, but it is also sunny - sometimes. So be prepared!

WHAT TO WEAR (CONTINUED)

SUNNY

- You can bring other clothing, like shorts, a tee-shirt and trainers for when it's sunny. Don't forget, it can rain at any time, so if you hear a pitter-patter from above, get changed!

- Fun fact: as trees in the Amazon Rainforest are so dense, it takes about 10 minutes for rain to fall through! Always be prepared for a shower!

ESSENTIAL

- One of the most important items of clothing is a backpack! It will help you carry all of your things. Where else will you put them?
HANDY EQUIPMENT

Equipment is crucial. Most of the time, you can't survive without it. You may not realise, but food is equipment too. There are many things you mightn't even know to take, so this should help.

FOOD AND DRINK

- First of all, comes food! Take things that won't go out of date soon. You can also eat some jungle foods, but you can see which ones in another section.

- Obviously, you need water. Take a bottle (hard and reusable is best) and a filter. When you run out of water, go to a river and filter some.

FROM YOUR CUPBOARD

- You'll need some tools! These include: a pocket knife (to cut through obstacles), a tent and sleeping bag (for rest and sleep) and a first aid kit (for injuries).

HANDY EQUIPMENT (CONTINUED)

-You might need an inflatable boat or raft. This sounds questionable, but you never know when you might need to cross a deep river!

- This one is important, but you mightn't realise that you need an umbrella! Even though you packed your waterproof clothing, this is just in case.

- If not all of the supplies above fit in your backpack, then you can always bring another bag if you are sure you can carry it.

- You'll also need some mosquito repellent. This smells bad, but it keeps away pesky mosquitos (blood-sucking flies).
FOOD AND SHELTER

Obviously, as we discussed in 'Handy Equipment', food is important. But what rainforest foods can you try? Shelter is also important, so in this chapter, you can learn what can be used for shelter and how to make your own.

FOOD
- You can find many foods in the rainforest, but some are not suitable for humans. If you plan to find food in the Amazon Rainforest, you'll need a bit of knowledge.

- Some fruits you can find and eat are: avocados, coconuts, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, bananas, mangoes, pineapples and tomatoes.

- Vegetables you can find and eat are: sweetcorn, potatoes and winter squash.
