Harriet Tabman
(1822 - 1913) was an American citizen who advocated the abolition of slavery.
She was born a slave, but escaped and gained her freedom only when she married.
She helped rescue at least 300 slaves and transport them to the northern United States and Canada before and during the Civil War through a secret network called the "Underground Railroad".
In her later years, Harriet was an activist in the women's suffrage campaign.
