chapter 1:
Date: 1860
I'm on the ship today, with no good place to stay, they took my house yesterday, there's no hope left, hey? My starving family and I were all blamed for something we didn’t do; so here we are in a knackered ship on our way to Van Diemen's Land.

Our lovely smiles are upside down, our tears are restless, and our hopeless heart is as cold as ice. I know we should be brave but it's complicated. Yesterday night our house was taken away because we were going to Van Diemen's Land and instead new people had enough money to buy the house so in the blink of an eye... our house was sold!
The weather here is horrible, it's freezing cold like ice. And what concerns me the most is when it thunders like an elephant stampede. I'm so worried about my family more than myself.
I would be restless all night.
I never imagined that this ghastly time would come. It's even worse than any nightmare I've had.
My dad is really brave, I would always feel safe around him. My mum is sympathetic and loving, similarly, my siblings are caring and always brighten up my day.
It kills me to think that my home is taken and that we would be tortured in prison. As I said, I worry most about my family more than myself...
Without warning, my little brother catches an appalling disease!
Without warning, my little brother catches an appalling disease!
My heart rate was beating rapidly, I could see my mother's eyes searching for help with tiny drops of tears, her face goes pale. So with no time to waste my father ran to a sailor and urged for help. We all prayed day and night nonstop! After nearly 3 days of calling for help we finally found someone. His name is James. He is one of the prisoners however, he said that he is a professional doctor, until he got blamed for something he really didn’t do and came on this ship, like us. I felt very sorry for him, but I was thankful he was here to help. Unfortunately, he didn’t have his doctors kit because it was taken on board with all the other supplies that were brought. So together as a team we made a genius plan.
