The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

As I reflect on this book, I always get so much joy. For me, and I am sure for many others, this book is one that could be read over and over again and still bring about such excitement. I read this book and still feel as though I am reading it for the first time. I would recommend Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe for any and all readers. It is a classic. It is a joy. It is always an adventure.

In this novel, there are several main characters. The story begins with introducing the main four siblings: Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter Pevensie. 

By far the greatest character in this novel is Aslan, the great lion. He is, in fact, a lion but not just any lion. He is the true ruler of the land of Narnia. He has the power of life and death in his very breath. Unlike others who try to rule Narnia, he rules only with nobility, mercy, and justice. 

Other characters that play a great role in the outcomes of the Pevensie lives include the White Witch, Mr Tumnus, the Professor, Mr and Mrs Beaver, Dwarf, and Maugrim.

One of the more profound settings in the novel is Cair Paravel. This was where the rulers of Narnia would be found. This could be considered the capital of Narnia. It is pictured as the top image on the next page.

The book we will be discussing today is, you guessed it, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This book has been loved by all for almost 75 years! Back in 1950, well-renowned author, CS Lewis, wrote this novel. The person responsible for the original fun pictures and illustrations is Pauline Baynes. The genre this novel falls under is fantasy fiction!

The theme in this novel is redemption. As the plot thickens, it seems that these kids get themselves deeper and deeper into life-threatening trouble, but in the end, there was redemption. The redemption was not just for the Pevensie's though. Their hard work and faith in one another resulted in the redemption of a whole nation. 

Chronicles of Narnia - Aslan's talk with Peter

Another theme that could be found in this story is that leadership takes on all different shapes and sizes. There was leadership found in Aslan, Peter, Susan, Mr. Tumnus, little Lucy, and even, eventually, Edmund. 

Summary: The Pevensie siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, all move to the countryside with Professor Kirke. On a rainy day, the siblings explore the house and stumble upon an enormous wardrobe. Unbeknownst to them, other the other side of this wardrobe was a whole new world--Narnia. Soon enough they discover this world and its many wonders. Unfortunately, one of the siblings, Edmund, fell to the evil ruler's, the White Witch, temptations. As he is taken captive by her, his siblings go on a journey to save him and to fulfill the prophesy that two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve would restore the land of Narnia and break the curse of the White Witch. Along this journey, the Pevensies meet several new acquaintances: the Beavers, Santa Claus, Mr. Tumnus, and most importantly, Aslan. Aslan, the true ruler of Narnia, to fulfill the prophesy and retrieve Edmund, offers himself as a sacrifice for Edmund's sins. As the Narnians and the Witch's people both prepare for battle, Aslan prepares his heart for his crucifixion. In the dark of night, Aslan slips away to offer himself as a sacrifice on the

Stone Table. The Witch and her minions torture and kill Aslan right before Susan and Lucy's eyes. The next morning, the girls hear a great crack and see that the Stone Table had been broken in half and Aslan was gone. He had risen from the dead. Meanwhile, the battle between the Narnians and the Witch is still taking place. Just when it is looking like the Witch will win, Aslan shows up with a mighty roar, accompanied by the Narnian prisoners the Witch had held captive. Together, they beat the White Witch and restored the kingdom of Narnia. To fulfill the prophesy, Aslan crowns each of the Pevensie children as the knew rulers of Narnia. They ruled for years before they came across the lamppost that they had encountered when they first discovered Narnia. Struck by curiosity, they reentered the wardrobe, fell through the door, and returned to England just as they had left. No time had passed even though they had spent years as Narnians. The Professor gave the children a slight smile as they explained the great journey they had just embarked and reassured them that they'd return someday to their beloved Narnia.
