Polish pierogi
Polish pierogi is a very common Polish dish, eaten for lunch or dinner. Children love it. It is very time consuming, therefore it's usually done by grandparents. The dough is always made in the same way. However, the filling differs. It can be fruit, mushrooms with cabbage or cottage cheese with onion.

Method

1. On a pastry put some flour, add an egg, half a glass of warm water and a pinch of salt. Then you knead the dough. It should be flexible and soft.

2. Boil the potatoes for 35-40 minutes, then chill them and mince them. Chop an onion and fry it lightly. Then add it to the potatoes. Mince some cottage cheese and add it to the potatoes. Take a pinch of salt and pepper and blend it together.

3. Roll out the dough and cut out circles with a glass. Take a teaspoonful of the filling and put the edges together with the filling inside.

4. Add a pinch of salt to the water and when it starts boiling put your "pierogi" in it. After 3-4 minutes of boiling, they are ready to be served.

A legend about
Jan and Cecylia

A long time ago, when Zygmunt August was the ruler of Poland, a sad love story happened. It was a story connected with the son of the founder of Kraśnik: Jan Baptist.
One day the king sent Jan to Sweden where he has fallen in love with a woman named Cecylia there. Jan could not have married Cecylia as he had to get back to Poland. As soon as Zygmunt August knew about that, he has forbidden him the feeling. Jan was supposed to marry Mikołaj Radziwił's daughter. Jan ignored the king's ban and started his trip on the Vistula River to Sweden. Unfortunately, he could see his beloved as his ship encountered a battle between the Danish and the Swedish. After the fight, the Danish ship attacked the Polish one, which was not prepared for that. Jan has found himself imprisoned. When the Polish king knew about that he tried to free Jan. However before any decisions were taken Jan died from the wounds he received in the battle. His body was brought to Kraśnik and buried here.
In the church, there was a tomb raised to commemorate their unfulfilled love.
