Chasey With The Fire! 

"I'm hungry!" cried Fred. "Now's not the time, and besides, you always are!" Emily growled. 

So they went down to lick nectar, with fire trailing closely behind. 

But once the fire was in sight again, Fred finally budged.

Unfortunately, Fred insisted on more,

Emily yelled. Daisy nodded. Fred nibbled.

Emily yelled. Daisy nodded. Fred nibbled.

Soon the fire caught up, burning all of the trees within a glider's 50 metre gliding range.

Daisy screamed. Emily nodded. Fred munched.

Out of the corner of their eyes, they saw kind human faces in fluorescent jackets. "You're safe now." they said, and took them away.

"YAY!" Emily and Daisy beamed. Fred burped.

After the gliders managed to escape the predators, they saw blue liquid washing up sand and shells. They glided to the only tree on the beach.

Habitat 6 of the 7 Australian glider species are found in Queensland. They need to have many trees to glide to and from and at least one needs to be hollowed out for their safety and protection, as well as for their place to sleep. Most gliders rely on eucalyptus leaves as a main aspect of their diet, so often they will live near a lot of eucalyptus trees. Threats A big threat to gliders is climate change and habitat destruction, because then they will not have a place to live or shelter. Another is predators such as kookaburras, owls, snakes, quolls and feral cats. Humans are also threats, when they steal baby gliders and sell them in the illegal black market. Sometimes, though, humans help and take babies to nurse them back to health. All seven species of the glider are intelligent, modest and absolutely enthralling. They have many interesting features that are amazing and wonderful. They are smart, resembling a ringtail possum, fun and social. The glider is a glorious creature and wonderful to investigate and learn about. We highly encourage you to write your own story about these wonderful creatures.&nbsp;

"Looks like THAT will be 'it'!" Daisy cried with uncontrollable tears in her eyes, pointing at the big red fiery beast.

Away from the big red fire hurtling towards them.

Emily yelled. Daisy nodded. Fred nibbled.

With no trees left to glide to, the gliders had to go down to the ground, where all the dangerous animals stalked. The gliders were usually able to glide away, but not now! "We have to go down, but watch for predators!"

Emily yelled. Daisy nodded. Fred nibbled.

With other animals surrounding them in the Noosa Animal Rescue, the gliders finally felt safe at home.

In a lush bush range, there lived three little gliders. 

"Let's play chasey!" said Emily. "But I refuse to be 'it'!"

And Fred... well, he was ALWAYS eating. Even through the night!

« Soaring Facts of the Glider »&nbsp; The glider is a small, omnivorous, arboreal, nocturnal, smart, social and emotional gliding possum that is wild and clever. They live from 5-15 years and come from the family marsupial infraclass. Appearance Gliders resemble small ringtail possums with a short, milky beige, silky fur coat with a long dark brown stripe running through the body. This is understandable, seeing as they are actually a type of possum. They have glossy wide black eyes with a long furry tail that can curl around tree branches as they walk on 4 tiny small pink claws and hands. They have tiny ears, and a membrane that goes from wrist to ankle and when they spread it out, it allows them to glide. These creatures are usually 24-30 cm tall and weigh around about 140-150 grams. Bushfires Although they have a more likely chance of survival than a common possum because they can glide from tree to tree, there are some natures of a bushfire that will take care of that. Sometimes the glider will get stranded on a tree because a high intensity fire burnt down all trees that are in the 50-meter gliding range and make them go down to the ground. Of course, if it was a low intensity fire, then the fire will travel below them. The ground is dangerous because of all the predators that they could usually escape and the heat and flames of the fire. The radiant heat is very dangerous to this animal, although the fire is the main threat to these creatures.
