Africa is the continent with the smallest urban population, below 50%. This percentage are higher in Mediterranean Coast, Gulf of Guinea and South Africa. More people are moving from rural areas to cities. Because of the climate change (drought, flooding, infestations), modernisation (urban development offers services and opportunities, which attract rural population. (exports) Algeria: It has a mountainous barrier called Atlas, many forests and vast plains. It is an oil and gas producer. Tunisia: It has the Atlas Mountains and Tellian Atlas. It is economy is based on oil, mining and tourism. Libya: Has a desert with several plateaus but no montain ranges. Its economy depends on the export of oil and natural gas. Egypt: The relief in general is bas-relief with the absence of mountainous elevations. It is an agricultural country, one of the most important crops is cotton. Sudan: It has an immense plain and the Nile River where numerous trinutaries have sources in the country. The economy comes from agriculture.

It is very rich in resources, but Africa is the poorest continent, this is largely due to its long history of explotation by Western Governments during colonialism and foreign multinationals today. Economic activities are often not focused on meeting the needs of the local population by producing goods for exports. National governments also foster corruption and unequal distribution of wealth.
