Introducing to our solution
Although there have been many efforts in preventing the amount of food from being thrown away such as punishment when you do not eat all the food, sorting food waste for reuse into fertilizer for plants, … but according to Impact 2, page 101 stated:
"Around 30% of food served in US canteen is wasted"
As we can see, the discarded food source is partly from the school canteen. So to prevent that amount of food waste, we need a suitable solution for schools. And to be part of the fight against both environmental pollution and climate change from the greenhouse gases that the breakdown of food affects the earth's atmosphere, we chose the way that to let the student choose what dish they want to have in that day and how much food they want to eat.
Why we choose that?
Firstly, as I have seen for many days, a lot of my classmate that waste their lunch. Why? here the reason!
They don't want to have that dish because they don't like
The food they get it too much for them
That is the main two reason! So why let them choose how much they eat is a good ways to reduce the food waste? The biggest benefit that they bring to us is student can having meal happily. So 90% of students food waste that they doesn't want it. So when we let student choose their food it one of many ways to reduce the food wasted in cafeteria. Their is another thing we need to notice about when let them choose that how much they food want to serve for their meal. They can eat happily, but some of them that can't eat the whole meal. If we just only let them choose what dish they want to eat is not enough to solve the food waste problem in school canteen. When we can let them control how much food they want to serve in their meal, we will reduce a lot of food waste.
Is it suitable for every school canteens?
