Students of Frontier International Academy in Detroit, Michigan, USA, and students of Spojena skola Dominika Tatarku (8-year Grammar School) in Poprad, Slovakia are pleased to present to you the "This Is Us" book - a collection of texts written by students in the school year 2019-2020. This book is a result of collaboration between English learners in Slovakia and the United States. It introduces readers to 4 countries: Bangladesh, Yemen, Slovakia, and briefly the USA.
The process of creating the book involved several steps. First, students posed questions about their interests and shared them with their peers. Next, they dived into informative and personal writing, and once finished the first draft, they received feedback from international peers. Students were assets for each other showing they have something contribute. Throughout this process learners were able to display their voice, which was valued by their peers. Since language learning is a lifelong process, the texts should be considered as work-in-progress.
