Purpose of the Club: The HMS Chorus is a means for students to come together to lift their voices in song. Students learn proper singing and breathing techniques, build concentration, memory, and listening through learning a vast genre of choral music. Including Classical, Pop, R &amp; B, and Gospel. Chorus fosters creativity, teamwork, builds confidence, and aids students in forging social bonds. Pre-pandemic, the chorus allowed students to go to various venues to perform for a variety of audiences at TF South High School, The All State Arena (Chicago Wolves) and the Six Flags Music Festival. Purpose of the Club: We create various projects throughout the year such as creating decorations for events, murals and artwork to be displayed around the school and tie-dye Art club t-shirts. Purpose of the Club: Newbery Bowl is a competition among Cal-Ridge Conference schools.&nbsp; Six to eight eighth grade students from each school are assigned to read ten Newbery Award-winning books.&nbsp; One school hosts the competition where students must answer questions about all ten of the books assigned.&nbsp; The answers to the questions are either the title of the book or a character’s name.&nbsp; Students compete in rounds where three schools participate at a time.&nbsp; The winners of the first two rounds, as well as the team with the next highest score will compete in the final round.&nbsp; The winning team gets the honor of bringing a large traveling trophy back to their school.&nbsp; Students from both the winning team and the runner-up team receive medals.&nbsp; All competitors receive certificates of achievement. Purpose of the Club: The purpose of this club is to introduce students to the creative world of video production. Students will use their artistic abilities to create exciting and informative videos. They will also learn how to shoot videos, edit film, write scripts, act, design sets, and direct various video projects. In addition to this, the Multimedia Club prepares students for the 21st-Century by teaching them how to critically think, be creative, collaborate, and communicate effectively as they navigate the video production process. Serious Book Lovers Only Need Apply!!!!!! Purpose of the Club: To promote a love for literature and a positive attitude towards reading!&nbsp; We do activities that foster interaction, cooperation and collaboration. We provide engaging book activities for enjoyment.&nbsp; We also provide opportunities and encourage responsibility by working with the school librarian and elementary students from Nathan Hale. Who can join: Students from 5th-8th grade.&nbsp; We allow 20 students total. Meeting Time:&nbsp;Certain Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00.&nbsp; We may have some early morning meetings too. Purpose of the Club: Leading Ladies is a club that empowers and educates 7th &amp; 8th grade girls on the various topics of self-esteem, budgeting, goal making, and entrepreneurship Who can join: It is open to all 7th - 8th grade girls Meeting Time:&nbsp;Every Tuesday from 3:00 - 4:00 Club Sponsor:&nbsp;Mrs. Smith

Purpose of the Club: We organize activities for our community, school, grade levels, and teachers while building&nbsp;leadership skills for our 4th graders.&nbsp;&nbsp; Projects we have worked on are as&nbsp;follows: Sponsored&nbsp;a "kindness" sticker day, members made "Positive" posters to help students follow school rules at the beginning of the year. We have also sponsored a "Pink out Day" for Breast Cancer and made posters for the event, helped with ideas for the Fall Festival and Sponsored one of the games. We have sponsored a Winter Themed School Spirit Week. Also we reward each grade level throughout the year with a special treats including in December, Kindergarten received candy canes, February, second grade received Valentines. Purpose of the Club: The purpose of this club is to encourage girls to impact their community in a positive way through computer coding. Girls engage in fun and simple online coding tutorials, build community through interactive activities, and learn about inspiring role models in the technology industry. Girls then work together to design and complete a “Girls Who Code Project,” where they apply their new coding skills to solve a real-world problem they care about. Purpose of the Club: The purpose of the club is to encourage students to become more involved in and more knowledgeable of the Spanish–speaking world beyond the classroom.&nbsp; Who can join: It is open to all 5th - 8th grade students who are interested in learning about and experiencing the customs and traditions of Hispanic cultures.&nbsp; Meeting Time:&nbsp;Thursdays from 3:00 - 3:45 Club Sponsor:&nbsp;Mrs. Abenden

Clubs&nbsp;help students to find and relate to others with similar interests and to talk and learn more about topics of their choice. One great way that activities such as clubs can improve the educational experience is by helping to build strong relationships between students with like interests.

Purpose of the Club: Unity Club is geared toward students who are interested in finding common ground in all the ways we are diverse, including the diversity among the LGBTQIA+ community and diversity in our backgrounds (heritage, religion, ethnicity, race, and/or socio-economic status). Students who are interested in learning about cultures other than their own and are willing to share information about their culture with others are welcome to participate.&nbsp; We love to discuss relevant and timely topics about unity and diversity, play music, eat food, and play games from various cultures. Purpose of the Club: The purpose of the Nathan Hale Art Club is to create additional opportunities to expose 3rd and 4th-grade students to activities that are enriching as well as skill-developing. Purpose of the Club: &nbsp;This Ensemble focuses on musical concepts such as melody, chordal structure, and independence. Students will perform a wide range of music with&nbsp;Boomwhackers. Purpose of the Club: IMSA Fusion is a STEM enrichment program for students in grades 4 and 5.&nbsp;By design, the IMSA Fusion curriculum is inquiry-based, problem-centered, competency-driven, and integrative. The learning experiences focus on helping students “learn how to learn” and emphasize collaboration, mathematical thinking and experimental scientific thinking. Topics relate to the students’ lives, thereby arousing their curiosity and increasing their motivation to learn in mathematics and science. Students are selected based upon their scores in both math and science. Purpose of the Club: National Junior Honor Society is a nationwide program that promotes scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Membership in the Lois Harris Chapter of NJHS is offered to students at Heritage who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.&nbsp; Students must complete an application detailing their service and involvement in athletics, music, charities, church, other personal activities, or community events.&nbsp; A faculty council reviews applications that are turned in on time to decide which students are inducted into the program in the spring induction ceremony.&nbsp;&nbsp; Students in this program work twelve service hours per school year tutoring students or helping out with local events.&nbsp; The Heritage NJHS supports various charities and serves as a group to help others in the community. Purpose of the Club: The purpose of the Student Council is to promote school spirit, scholarship, and community service.&nbsp;Student Council members meet on a weekly basis and plan/facilitate various school events.&nbsp;The HMS Student Council will also attend leadership workshops and the Illinois Association of Junior High Student Councils (IAJHSC) convention in Springfield.&nbsp;This year so far, Student Council has organized a Spirit Week that was quite successful before Winter Break. They have also decorated for the teachers’ Holiday Breakfast and wrote encouraging notes to staff for Teacher Appreciation Week. Currently, they are planning a fundraiser to raise money for this year’s State Service Project, Variety for Illinois, which helps fund needed medical equipment for kids whose insurance does not cover for them. We look forward to seeing how much the kids raise for such a worthy cause!! Purpose of the Club: This extracurricular focuses on playing individual instruments. Students will meet at Heritage MS to learn how to play their choice of Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion. Students will work on both individual and group playing. The ensemble will focus on notes, rhythms, and techniques. The goal of the ensemble is to participate in the Heritage Bands Concert in May.
