The Broken Time

If you are reading this book in the year of 2051, you probably won’t believe that my mother was the person who invented the time machine and her name is Julia Peterson. As you would’ve learned, the one who invented the time machine is Henderson Peterson. However, that’s true, but also untrue. My mother is an inventor and she loves to plan variety of experiments. However, I loath her doing these experiments because I wouldn’t have been able to live with her after this terrible adventure.

It was a sunny and cozy day outside. The chirping birds and the shining sunlight welcomed me to come out of the windows and greet the weather. I was meeting Aunt Vanessa today since Dad was going to pick Mom up from Aunt Vanessa’s. In addition, they had to tell me something important and I couldn’t fall asleep last night. The next morning, I dashed to the car and slammed the door like it was about to crash. Moreover, I imagined if I opened my eyes, I would be standing right in front of Aunt Vanessa.

I am Selena Peterson, and I am currently in 7th grade. My grandparents always say that I was just like my mom when she was young; very adventurous, and curious about chemistry or engineering. These days, our family never let her do inventions because we don’t want the event to happen again. This all started at the year of 2050, in Berlin, Germany.

It was a sunny and cozy day outside. The chirping birds and the shining sunlight welcomed me to come out of the windows and greet the weather. I was meeting Aunt Vanessa today since Dad was going to pick Mom up from Aunt Vanessa’s. In addition, they had to tell me something important and I couldn’t fall asleep last night. The next morning, I dashed to the car and slammed the door like it was about to crash. Moreover, I imagined if I opened my eyes, I would be standing right in front of Aunt Vanessa.

After about an hour, the car rushed through, “Daddy, hurry up. I can’t wait to hear what they’re trying to tell me. Speed up!” I screamed impatiently.

“Okay, honey.” I kind of irritated him. After that “short” hour, we arrived in front of her house with bunch of techie materials. Aunt Vanessa has worked with Mom for 16 years (also with other inventors and scientists, but they mostly work together), therefore, they know about each other a lot. They are adventurous, and they love to investigate new things or create new things (just like me).

“Aunt Vanessa and Mommy, what were you trying to tell me?” I tapped my toes on the floor and bit my nails.

“Your mom and I invented a time machine,” Aunt Vanessa uttered. “we worked on these for years!”

“Really, can I try it?” I was waiting for their answer. However, they have to try it first, so that when they publish it, there won’t be any sophisticated problems.

“I’ll go for the experiment,” Mom was taking a risk for what was very dangerous, “since, I was the one who invented this, therefore, I have to.”

“If you want to, but I have a meeting tomorrow, so I really can’t be in the investigation.” Aunt Vanessa looked very dejected because she couldn’t try it out.

“Yeah, it’ll only take 2 days.” Mom talked like she wasn’t frightened about it, but I could see that she was worried; it was filled with fear. She gave me a big hug, like it was going to be the last moment with her. My eyes were filled up with tears, and my nose have gotten red.

Meanwhile, Mom and Aunt Vanessa was talking about their work. Afterwards, Mom got into the time machine, opened the window pane of the machine. After about a minute, it flew up and I waved to my mom until she wasn’t in my sight.

Two days have passed, and we had to bring Mom from her trip. I didn’t feel comfortable because I was worried if Mom would be in jeopardy. Suddenly, Aunt Vanessa’s name came up on Dad’s phone.

“Conner, Julia didn’t arrive, and I just found out that the remote control was broken!” I could tell that she was in danger by Dad’s expression on his face... By the time we have arrived, I only saw Aunt Vanessa standing in front of the door.

“The remote’s broken, somebody has to get her, because she’s in Germany, when it was the week before World War II started,” sweats were dripping down Aunt Vanessa’s face, and her face was pale.

“I’ll go. I promise to bring her back,” my voice was trembling and my lips were shaking. Aunt Vanessa, Dad, and Cindy was standing right in front of me and they didn’t say a word. Before anybody could say anything, I dashed inside another time machine. Afterwards, Aunt Vanessa gave me all of the things I needed.

“I don’t think it’ll be safe to go by yourself. Your mother has a scientist friend who is called, Ariana, and she worked with her for more than 10 years. I’ll call her for help.”

(After calling Ariana)———

“She said she can go with you. She’ll come here in about 5 minutes. Don’t worry, she knows lot about Julia.”

Ariana had arrived and I was ready to start my quest. Ariana always had a warm smile on her face and she helped me put on my seatbelt; she was very caring. Meanwhile, I closed my eyes and dreamed about my family. Right after I opened my eyes, we arrived.

“Selena, do you remember anything about your mother right before she left?”Ariana asks patiently.

“I remember her wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans, with black shoes on. We can travel around Berlin, since we have 4 days left.” I suggested. We were looking around for 3 days. Moreover, Ariana and I went across every streets and every famous places. There we arrived, the last place in Berlin; it was a gigantic museum with lots of ancient architectures. We took heavy, tired steps, rushing up the steps.
