Strategy: Paragraphs and topic sentences

When you write organize your ideas in paragraphs.

1. The introduction tells you what the text is going to be about.
2. The middle paragraph(s) give background and details.
3. The conclusion briefly summarizes and repeats the ideas from the introduction.

Writing guide

Task: Think of a person you admire and write an inspiring description.
Collect ideas and make notes about why you admire about them, what they have achieved, if a friend how you met them, their personal qualities ...
Plan: organize your ideas in a 3 or 4-paragraph structure (see model texts SB. pp. 65)

Check and edit:
✔ Are the ideas divided into paragraphs?
✔ Does each paragraph have a clear topic and a topic sentence?
✔ Have I checked grammar, spelling and punctuation?
✔ Did I arrange my text carefully on the page and choose a nice layout? Have I included any images?

„Sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid “

The person I really admire is Kendall Nicole Jenner. She is a very popular US-American model. She has always lived in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. I really appreciate her, because she really wanted to model and she put all her efforts in reaching her goals.

Okay, you can say that she isn’t self-made, because she was on a TV show with her family. Her sisters are called Kloe, Kourtney, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. They filmed the TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. The series will end this year after 20 seasons. Kendall grew up with the camera. You can also see that she always wanted to model. What’s more, in one episode she came up to her mother Kris, who had built up the entire fortune of the family, and showed her a model folder that she had made, in order to show her that she was serious about her ambition of becoming a model. I think it is also great that Kendall loves her body the way it is. All other Kardashians went through a lot of cosmetic surgeries, such as for example hips, the waist or breast. However, Kendall has always stayed natural and so she has learned to love herself.

Kendall has worked hard for her goals. After three years of fashion weeks and cooperation with popular brands like Givenchy, Chanel, Versace, she finally achieved the impossible. Forbes Magazine made Kendall the best-paid model worldwide. She has held that position now since 2018. (There you can see Kendall Jenner at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2018 - YouTube ) Kendall is also active on social media. With her 160 million followers on Instagram, she has a lot to do. Once she said: “My parents taught me that work ethic is one of the most important keys in life, and I believe it.” I think that too because Kris, her mom, also called momager (mom-manager), made out of her daughters two billionaires as well three millionaires.

I really admire Kendall in every way. It’s great that you can see her journey in her TV show, how she worked for her dream, to model. I think it is not easy to get your ducks in a row, to manage a family, runway shows, travelling for jobs and social media. In addition, she once said about being famous: “Sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid for, like, five minutes. That's tough when the paparazzi are chasing you. “

Emma Watson is a very inspirational person

When I read the biography of Emma Watson, I am fascinated. She always does her best, had a great education and now she helps other people. She is a great inspiration to me and that is why I admire her.

Campaigning for the interests of women worldwide

Emma Watson is British, but she was born in Paris. When she was five, her parents separated and she moved to Oxford with her mother and younger brother. She wanted to be an actress from the age of six and started with singing-, dancing- and acting lessons. She always had very good grades at school. Emma Watson became famous as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter films. In 2002, she won the "Young Artist Award" as the best young actress for her performance. In addition to her career as an actress, Emma Watson campaigns for the interests of women worldwide. In 2014 she was appointed UN Special Ambassador for Women's Rights. Since then, she has also been the face of the UN Women campaign "HeForShe", which campaigns for women's rights and equality. In interviews and on her social- media- channels, the actress repeatedly draws attention to cases of inequality.

Changing something in the world

I find Emma Watson very inspirational because she has had a goal in her mind since she was six years old and she has achieved it, which shows to me that you can achieve a lot with hard work. Therefore, she is very determined. However, she doesn't just think about herself, she also thinks about other people and wants to be happy and have a good life too. She wants to change something in the world in general and that is what I find inspirational about her.

Zendaya is a person I admire. She helps people to love themselves and to be confident about their body. Although Zendaya is one meter an eighty-seven centimeters tall (5 feet and 10 inches), she wears high heels and I love that about her.

Zendaya is an actress, singer and model and was born in 1996. I noticed her while watching the movie Spiderman Homecoming released in 2007. Her career began when she was fourteen years old and acted in the Disney Channel original series Shake it up. She released her first album at seventeen. Zendaya was born on September 1st 1996. She is now 24 years old and a great actress, singer and model.

When Zendaya was about twenty years old, she defended a woman who was being bullied by a man on the internet because of her body. In addition, she offered her a model position because she thinks women should support each other. I think she has done great so far and I agree with her that women should support one another.

I admire her because she always spreads such a good mood. She is very respectful towards other people. She loves her family and friends. One day she said two things that impressed me very much: “Let’s practice motivation and love, not discrimination and hate.” I totally agree with her because there is so much hate in this world. And the second thing was: “Remember that we are all human beings trying to do what we love to do." She is also right this time. Each of us should do what we like and enjoy. Everyone should live as they want, and be the way they want to be. You should live and let live. That is her message and I admire that about her.
