Strategy: Paragraphs and topic sentences

When you write organize your ideas in paragraphs.

1. The introduction tells you what the text is going to be about.
2. The middle paragraph(s) give background and details.
3. The conclusion briefly summarizes and repeats the ideas from the introduction.

Writing guide

Task: Think of a person you admire and write an inspiring description.
Collect ideas and make notes about why you admire about them, what they have achieved, if a friend how you met them, their personal qualities ...
Plan: organize your ideas in a 3 or 4-paragraph structure (see model texts SB. pp. 65)
1. Say why you admire them
2. Give background info. Talk about their achievements and/or how you met them.
3. Say why you admire them again
Write your description on your two pages
Check and edit:
✔ Are the ideas divided into paragraphs?
✔ Does each paragraph have a clear topic and a topic sentence?
✔ Have I checked grammar, spelling and punctuation?
✔ Did I arrange my text carefully on the page and choose a nice layout? Have I included any images?

„Sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid “

The person I really admire is Kendall Nicole Jenner. She is a very popular US-American model. She has always lived in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. I really appreciate her, because she really wanted to model and she put all her efforts in reaching her goals.

Okay, you can say that she isn’t self-made, because she was on a TV show with her family. Her sisters are called Kloe, Kourtney, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. They filmed the TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. The series will end this year after 20 seasons. Kendall grew up with the camera. You can also see that she always wanted to model. What’s more, in one episode she came up to her mother Kris, who had built up the entire fortune of the family, and showed her a model folder that she had made, in order to show her that she was serious about her ambition of becoming a model. I think it is also great that Kendall loves her body the way it is. All other Kardashians went through a lot of cosmetic surgeries, such as for example hips, the waist or breast. However, Kendall has always stayed natural and so she has learned to love herself.

Kendall has worked hard for her goals. After three years of fashion weeks and cooperation with popular brands like Givenchy, Chanel, Versace, she finally achieved the impossible. Forbes Magazine made Kendall the best-paid model worldwide. She has held that position now since 2018. (There you can see Kendall Jenner at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2018 - YouTube ) Kendall is also active on social media. With her 160 million followers on Instagram, she has a lot to do. Once she said: “My parents taught me that work ethic is one of the most important keys in life, and I believe it.” I think that too because Kris, her mom, also called momager (mom-manager), made out of her daughters two billionaires as well three millionaires.

I really admire Kendall in every way. It’s great that you can see her journey in her TV show, how she worked for her dream, to model. I think it is not easy to get your ducks in a row, to manage a family, runway shows, travelling for jobs and social media. In addition, she once said about being famous: “Sometimes I just want to be left alone and be a normal kid for, like, five minutes. That's tough when the paparazzi are chasing you. “
