Albert Einstein biography

Albert Einstein was a German physicist and mathematician. He was considered one of the greatest geniuses of humanity, as he developed the Theory of Relativity.

He managed to make the relation between mass and energy and formulated the most famous equation of all time: E = mc². In addition, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his discoveries on the law of photoelectric effects.

Childhood and Formation

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, on March 14th, 1879. Son of a industrial Jew, in 1880 he moved with his family to the city of Munich.

At six years old, he began to study the violin, but soon distinguished himself in mathematics, physics and philosophy. After high school in Ulm, he entered the Polytechnic Institute of Zurich, Switzerland, where he completed his degree in physics.

In 1901 he wrote his first scientific article "The Investigation of the State of Ether in the Magnetic Field". In February of the same year, he received Swiss citizenship. He accepted a position in the patent office in Bern. On January 6, 1903, he married Mileva Maric, with whom he had three children.

Theory of Relativity ( inicial formulation)

In 1905, Albert Einstein sent four articles to the “Annalen der Physics Magazine” including the “initial formulation ” of his famous “Theory of Relativity”, in which they revealed to the world an entirely new view of the Universe

He proposed a formula for the equivalence between mass and energy the famous equation E = mc², whereby the energy (E) of a quantity of matter, with mass (m), is equal to the product of mass by the square of the speed of light, represented by (c).

In 1909, at the age of 30, he became teacher of physics at the University of Zurich and the following year he was teaching at the University of Prague.

In 1912 he held the post of Physics at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School. In 1913 he was appointed teacher at the University of Berlin and director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physics. Become a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences.

General Relativity Theory

On November 25th, 1915, he took the stage at the Prussian Academy of Sciences and declared that he had completed his exhaustive research in search of a new and deeper understanding of gravity: the Theory of General Relativity

The new view of the interactions between space, time, matter, energy and gravity has been recognized as one of humanity's greatest intellectual achievements.

Nobel Prime in Physics

In 1919, Einstein became famous around the world after his theory was proven in an experiment carried out in a solar eclipse. In 1921 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to theoretical physics and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect.

On November 10th, 1922, during the awarding ceremony for the Nobel Prize in Physics, Einstein was in Japan and couldn't receive him in person. He was represented at the handover ceremony by the German ambassador to Sweden.

Visit to Brazil

Albert Einstein began traveling around the world to expose his physical theories and also to debate problems such as racism and world peace. On May 4th, 1925, he arrived in Rio de Janeiro, then capital of Brazil, being sent by President Artur Bernardes.

Among other commitments, he visited the Botanical Gardens, the National Observatory, the National Museum and the Oswaldo Cruz Institute.

The theory of happiness

In November 1922, Albert Einstein was on a tour of Japan, holding meetings and installed in the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, when generating a tip to the luggage carrier, the scientist handed him two handwritten notes explaining how to achieve happiness and handed it to loader.

A note written on the hotel's letterhead reads: "A simple and quiet life, brings more joy than the pursuit of success in constant restlessness." The other note, written on a single paper, says: “Where there is a desire, there is a way”.

The handwritten paper, in which Albert Einstein explains how to achieve a happy life, which was in the possession of a relative of the hotel porter, were auctioned on October 24th, 2017, at the Winner auction house, for 1.56 million dollars .

Last years

In 1933 Albert Einstein resigned from his posts in Germany, where the Nazis were already in power, and returned to the United States. He went on to teach at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University, where he would become director.

In 1940 he won US citizenship. In 1946, he supported projects for the formation of a world government and the exchange of secrets between the great atomic powers, aiming at world peace.

Albert Einstein died in Princeton, United States, on April 18, 1955.
