~Chapter 1~
The Bubble Begins
Violet
It was a normal morning before school, when I heard Ma calling my name: Violet. Violet Beauregarde. I go to Tanning Field Middle School, and I’m in seventh grade. I have the absolute worst teacher ever!  His name is Mr. Brailington and he hates when I chew my gum in class. I mean I can’t help it, I’ve been chewing ever since I was four years old. I’ve been chewing this piece for three months solid!
When I was heading to school one day, my best friend Cornelia Prinzmetel walked up to me and out of nowhere said,
“We can’t be friends anymore because you broke my record of chewing gum!”
Cornelia started to cry, and ran into the school building.
“What is wrong with that girl?!?”
I thought to myself. I was so mad at her!!! She was so self centered!
When I finally got to school, my bad mood didn’t lift at all when I saw Mr. Brailington. Ugh! He really is the worst! Well, anyways, I made sure that before the first bell rang I would go to my locker to get a piece of gum. Maybe, just maybe, I could sneak one tiny piece past that awful teacher today.
And would you look at that: the whole class or Mr. Brailington didn’t even realize I was chewing. That lifted my spirits a little, but not enough to be in a great mood. And when the day was finally over,  I walked home to my small apartment in Miles City, Montana.

Man! That Bubble Butt! Violet is so annoying. Chewing gum is my thing. I’m supposed to be the champ. So of course, being me I started to “cry” and stomped away--dramatically. I think she believed I was crying. I couldn’t know for sure. Well here we have it: a special chapter from me: Cornelia Prinzmetel, The Real Champion Gum Chewer.
I was faking being Violet's BFF. I mean, like, I just needed to learn all the ropes--use her. But here we are and she’s still the champion. There’s gotta be some way I can chew my gum longer than her. Besides, Mama said that I absolutely need to beat Little Miss Violet Beauregarde.
Ma’s a gum chewer too, actually she’s beaten most of everyone when she was my age. But alas so did Violet’s mama. They tied in the last championship round. They each chewed a piece for seven months straight. Now they’re so called “retired”. I think that I should be the winner. I mean I’m the cutest, smartest, and the best gum chewer, obviously. That’s what Mama says, anyway.

When I got to my first class that day, I was bored. I decided to skip third period and do something fun for once: explore the school basement. So when the third period bell rang I rushed to the end of the hall to the basement entry. I saw the plaque on the door that read ‘BASEMENT’. I twisted the now rusted metal doorknob, and heard the slight creak of the door opening.
I moved into the basement and started my descent down the long staircase. When I finally reached the bottom. There was a musty smell that I couldn’t quite place, and there were cobwebs everywhere you looked. The walls were slightly peeling in the corners and were painted an unfriendly beige colour.
Half of me almost darted back upstairs, but there was no way I was skipping my adventure, and besides, I was already down there so I might as well explore a little.
I walked through one of the cobweb covered doors and immediately bolted out. There were so many spiders there! Ewww! I screamed as I ran away, not realizing I was running deeper into the erie basement.

After fifteen more minutes of ‘exploring’ I decided to go back upstairs and at least go to class for a bit. My teacher was probably wondering where I was. Boy, did I make the wrong choice. I should have stayed in the basement until the third period was over. I shouldn’t have walked into the classroom late.
Because when I did, all eyes were on me. Snickers filled the room, even Violet was laughing. My cheeks burned with embarrassment.
~Chapter 3~
The Bubble Bursts
Violet
When Cornelia walked into class that day late as always, everyone was laughing. I don’t think she realized how dirty she looked: cobwebs all over her hair, dirt smudged on her clothes. I was laughing but also confused. Where had she been?
I was laughing so hard that I fell off my chair. Cornelia’s face was so red that she looked like a bubble ready to burst! Cornelia ran to the bathroom crying.
I didn’t care.
It’s not like we were friends.
Cornelia came back 3 minutes later. She did something unbelievable. She told everyone my SECRET! The secret I had trusted her with for so many years. She just stood up in front of everyone and belted it out! I was fuming! That little rat had told my secret! Now I was the one with cheeks ready to burst.
I thought that nothing exciting would happen that day in school except something did indeed happen, after lunch time.
That day I didn’t sit with Cornelia like I usually do, instead I sat by myself at the back table while Cornelia laughed with all her friends, like earlier today never happened.
But ‘earlier today’ was all I thought about while eating my fresh green salad Ma had packed me that morning.  After lunch, I had Mr. Brailington’s class. “Here we go,” I thought as I entered his dreary classroom. Normally when I walk in, the serious teacher is at his desk and everyone is quiet and sitting at their desks waiting for the lesson to start, but today was different. Today, Mr. Brailington was up and out of his desk. All the other students were muttering to each other and Mr. Brailington seemed to be…fine with it.
When I quickly walked to my desk, I walked past Cornelia. She was talking to Tommy, her boyfriend and, a really cute boy in my class, about a contest.

The Bubble News
Violet
I needed to know what Cornelia and Tommy were talking about. Good thing my desk was right next to where they were chatting.
“Mr. Willy Wonka is having a contest!” Tommy exclaimed. “Yeah! I heard!” Cornelia said with excitement. “He’s putting five GOLDEN TICKETS in five ordinary chocolate bars! If you find one, you get to take a tour of the factory with Willy Wonka himself!”
With each word Cornelia got more and more excited.
“I absolutely love Wonka Bars! I’m sure I’ll be one of the lucky five. And besides, there’s probably gum at his factory,”
“Me too. I will too” Tommy stamered.
“Yeah. Sure,” she muttered.
“Take your seats children,” Mr. Brailington said,  finally calming everyone down. But I couldn’t concentrate. A contest! I had to win!
When I got home I told Ma about the contest and she had already bought a ton of Wonka Bars! I think she was taking this more seriously than I was.
“I’ve already unwrapped some-no luck-and there’s another box in the kitchen and one outside.”
She was talking so fast I just stared and marveled at the boxes of chocolate bars.
“Why so many, Ma?” I asked puzzled.
“Violet, honey, I don’t think you understand.” I looked at her confused “This is Willy Wonka we’re talkin’ about. The greatest candymaker of all time!”
She threw up her hands when she said this.
“Ma-” I started to calm her, then she cut me off.
“Oh and I think there’s a box upstairs somewhere, I'm not quite sure. Could you get that one?”
“Sure,” I mumbled.
As I walked up the stairs to get yet another box of chocolate, I realized Ma was going crazy.
Wonka
I brought down the box and Ma immediately opened it up.
“Start unwrapping Violet, you wanna be the winner, don’t you?”
“Yes Ma,” I said. I wanted to win but I didn’t think Ma had to go to this extent. I mean, winning is her thing.
