WELCOME TO THE ICEFJORD CENTRE
The permanent exhibition “The Story of Ice” is a
presentation of the unique natural and cultural
history of Ilulissat, including the climate changes that are having a dramatic impact on the area.
This is the story about the creation of ice crystals in the clouds that will fall down on the inland ice, pack itself densely and with time evolve into a glacier front that will break off and become an iceberg that melts to water and then evaporates and returns to the clouds.
Ice also means life to humans and animals that need the sea ice to hunt or fish. Here ice is the basis of life for nature and humans.
On page 7 you can watch three videos showing the erection of the Icefjord Centre. In Danish.
