- The Stone Age is the longest lasting period in history. - The Stone Age lasted from around year 13.000 bce till about 1.700 bce. - The Stone Age began when the last ice age, the Weichsel ice age, ended. Now you will listen to a podcast called The Town of the Greenland Halibut. You will hear the story about how the halibut turns Illulissat into a town that never sleeps. You will also hear about the peoples of the Stone Age, the shaman, the missionary and about the difference between the fish in Northern and Southern Greenland.

In the Inuit religion, the shaman, also called Angakok, is the connecting link between people and religion and he is greatly respected. The Inuit live in close interaction with nature and this is reflected in their religion. In the podcast you heard about the people from Sermermiut visiting the Eqi inhabitants and about how the shaman fell on his bum. When he got up again, he said, "You must cut a hole here and fish!" They then made a fishing rod of whalebard and a hook of seal, cut a hole in the ice and caught a huge halibut.

Poul Egede was a Danish-Norwegian missionary in Christianshåb in Greenland in the years 1736-1740. Here is an excerpt from Poul Egede's diary from his visit to Sermermiut: Here I found the largest group of people I have ever seen any place in Greenland, about 20 quite big houses, like a small village. They bragged about this and asked whether I had ever seen so many people in one place anywhere else in Greenland. I immediately sensed, from the way they talked and from their behaviour, that they were proud of being so many and of the good catch they were making.
