We are part of the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE),
funded by the Department of Education. The NCCE is led by STEM
Learning in conjunction with Raspberry Pi Foundation and BCS, the
Chartered Institute for IT.

Our national programme of Primary & Secondary CPD:
- aims to improve teachers’ subject knowledge & confidence in all aspects of computing to support the National Curriculum teaching requirements at Key Stages 1 - 4.
- provides practical advice on how to teach this to pupils.
- aims to improve girls’ engagement in secondary school computing and computer science.
- aims to upskill participating teachers to teach the new knowledge-rich GCSE Computer Science more effectively (via the Computer Science (CS) Accelerator programme).
- aims to train and certify 8,000 secondary computing teachers (via the CS Accelerator programme).

PRIMARY SUPPORT
We can provide training and support for primary teachers at all stages of their careers. We can provide a one off CPD booster or join our professional development programme, the Primary Computer Science Certificate, which is designed to support teachers from all backgrounds who want to improve their knowledge of computing.
Fees and Bursaries
All our Primary CPD courses cost £65 per day, however the NCCE are so passionate about their mission to support teachers to provide a world class computing education, they offer generous bursaries to facilitate training. If a course takes place during the school day (if the course starts before 2.30pm) we offer a bursary of £220 for one teacher per school per year to undertake training with us. Therefore, after course fees, your school would receive net £155 to pay for cover, expenses or to purchase computing equipment.
Whole School Support
We are frequently asked to provide training to all teaching staff in a school, where individuals may have little or no previous experience of the computing curriculum. With our attractive bursaries and potential venue hire fees offered for face to face courses, this can be a very cost effective option. Feedback has been fantastic, find out what teachers think here

EXPLORE OUR PRIMARY COURSES
CH001 Teaching and leading key stage 1 computing - 2 days
Supporting teachers with KS1 computing, this two day course explores how to effectively teach computing to KS1 students including algorithms and programming, digital literacy, creative computing and presenting information.

CH002 Teaching and leading key stage 2 computing - 2 days
Over two days you will broaden your understanding across the KS2 computing curriculum. You will strengthen your knowledge of computer systems and networks, including the internet and technologies such as search engines. You will demystify computers, developing understanding of data fundamentals such as binary, and learning how the parts of a computer system handle this data to carry out useful tasks.

CH003 Primary programming and algorithms
Learn essential subject knowledge to become a skilled teacher of primary computing. Be prepared to teach algorithms and programming to all ages of children, helping them develop their understanding through effective pedagogy.

CH004 Introduction to primary computing 
For primary computing teachers who are new to the subject or its leadership. This CPD covers the whole computing curriculum at an introductory level, including programming essentials using Scratch.

CH005 Outstanding primary computing for all
Computing is for every child, and the school curriculum must allow for all children to succeed. Computing subject leaders can make inclusive, effective curriculum implementation happen, leading to success for all.

CH007 Assessment of primary computing
Computing is for every child, and the school curriculum must allow for all children to succeed. Computing subject leaders can make inclusive, effective curriculum implementation happen, leading to success for all.

CH008 Leading Primary Computing - 2 days
For new subject leaders of computing, or those looking to progress their career through curriculum leadership.

SECONDARY SUPPORT
Whatever your needs or level of expertise, our highly personalised professional development programme; the Computer Science Accelerator Programme (CSA), gives you autonomy over your learning, and will help to increase your confidence across the GCSE computer science curriculum.

Our training covers core concepts including algorithms, programming and cybersecurity, and is available both face-to-face and online. Generous bursaries are available and all training is free. There are routes available to experienced teachers looking to enhance their knowledge to the highest level, as well as introductory courses for teachers new to the subject, with tailored pathways applicable to teachers of other subjects.

How to get involved:

Register by creating an account at teachcomputing.org and complete knowledge questionnaire to develop your personalised learning pathway

Attend at least 10 hours of CPD and immediately earn a bursary of £300 for your school, or future employer if training
If the courses fall within the school day i.e. start before 2.30pm, an in-service teacher qualifies for attendance bursary of £220 (up to 4 instances) to facilitate cover/expenses

If you decide to continue training, complete up to 40 hours CPD and take final knowledge test. Passing the assessment will qualify for a further £620 completion bursary for your school

CH220 Representing algorithms using flowcharts and pseudocode
This course aims to deepen understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy. 

CH221 Computer systems - input, output and storage
Take your first steps to opening up the computer, exploring the main components, their role and how they work together in computer systems. 

CH222 Fundamentals of Computer Networks
Learn how computers of all shapes and sizes are connected physically, or wirelessly, and how this arrangement affects how data is shared. 

CH223 Python programming constructs: sequencing, selection & iteration
Learn how to write code to input, process and output data, and how to manipulate data stored in variables. Using the building blocks of sequence, selection and iteration you’ll begin to understand how programs are constructed to perform a multitude of simple and more complex tasks.

CH228 Introduction to algorithms,  
programming, and data in GCSE computer science
Create some simple block-based computer programs and discover how to implement them in the text-based language Python. 

CH230 Searching and sorting algorithms 
An understanding of algorithms is fundamental to success in GCSE computer science this course will teach you how algorithms manipulate data to achieve desired aims. 

CH231 Computer Processors 
Explore the core of a modern computer. Learn how the instructions that humans write in computer programs are translated into machine code that the computer can process.

CH232 The Internet and Cyber Security 
Build on knowledge of local computer networks to cover the globally connected systems forming the internet. 

CH233 Python programming: Working with data
In this course you will learn about data types, and how data structures are manipulated in Python programs. 

CH234 Maths in computer science
Mathematics is firmly embedded at the core of computer science, during this course you’ll explore the foundational topics at the heart of mathematics and computer science.

CH238 Introduction to computer systems, networking, and security in GCSE computer science
Learn about the different components of computer hardware, including devices not instantly recognisable as computers. 

CH239 Higher Attainment in GCSE computer science - meeting the challenge of exams
Explore how to improve attainment in GCSE Computer Science, look at how students should tackle exam questions and use key resources such as moderator reports, how retrieval and interleaving can be used and mapping progression from KS3 to KS4.

CH243 Python programming - advanced subject Knowledge,  implementation and testing
Develop your Python programming skills by exploring advanced programming techniques then implementing and testing these in a working solution. 

CH244 Python programming: analysis, design and evaluation
Develop your Python programming skills by exploring the analysis, design and evaluation stages of the software development life cycle.
