A unique experience in a warm, welcoming camp

Since its beginnings in Johnson, Vermont in 2005, Northeast Heritage Music Camp has had on faculty some of the most revered, influential musicians--both established and rising stars--across a wide range of traditional styles that speak to New England music and dance. In 2012, we became a non-profit organization, and in 2013 moved our camp to Starksboro in Vermont's beautiful Green Mountains. With a focus on creating a music community, our student to faculty ratio is 7:1. There are endless opportunities to interact with all of our faculty in classes, workshops, band labs, jams, and around the dinner table. Alex is a traditional singer, accordionist, pianist and dance caller hailing from Somerset, England, now living in Brattleboro, VT. Performing songs and tunes from around the United Kingdom and America, Alex has made his mark on the folk scene with his rhythmic dance-able accordion style, strong voice and his fun and engaging stage presence.

Baron Collins-Hill
Mandolin, Old Time

Baron is a Portland, Oregon-based musician and educator who plays and teaches mandolin, tenor guitar, six string guitar, tenor banjo, bouzouki, and other mandolin family instruments. He plays tenor guitar and mandolin in Velocipede,  and teaches throughout the West Coast and New England.

Becky Tracy

Becky displays a distinctive clarity of tone, a rhythmic attack owing much to the French Canadian pulse joined with the melodic quality of Irish music. Her sound is unmistakable. She has been a defining presence in some of the most popular and innovative contra dance bands to come out of New England, being the fiddler for both Wild Asparagus and Nightingale, as well as Eloise and Co. Becky engages our campers with insightful teaching and musical artistry.

Jeremiah McLane

Jeremiah brings a wide range of experiences to his playing, including classical, jazz, Celtic, Scottish, and French/Breton music. He was a co-founder of the Clayfoot Strutters and Nightingale, both bands having a lasting impact on the traditional dance scene. Jeremiah continues to experiment and innovate across musical traditions. His musical breadth and expertise connect with both newer and more advanced players.

Fiddler and dancer Joanne Garton mixes her pervasive passion for Scottish culture with the drive and rhythms of the New England dance floor.  Joanne teaches music, music theory, and step dancing to kids and adults, plays regularly for contra, English, and Scottish dances around the US and Canada, and performs on stage with her duo The Turning Stile with Aaron Marcus.

Katie McNally
Fiddle, Cape Breton

Katie McNally grew up playing Scottish and Cape Breton music near Boston, Massachusetts and currently tours with her own projects, Fàrsan, Pine Tree Flyers, and the Katie McNally Trio. A member of the cross-genre fiddle supergroup, Childsplay, Katie has also toured with Karan Casey, John Whelan, and Galician bagpiper Carlos Núñez. At camp, Katie's "tune and cheese pairings" are exceptionally popular!
