The June 2023 Northeast Heritage Music Camp was a doozy! None of the months of planning could have prepared us for the speed of the virulent COVID outbreak that raced through our community. With contingency plans in place, we met the challenge together day by day, ending the week with a profound sense of accomplishment. Even with beefed up precautions, our dwindling numbers led to the hard decision to officially end camp on Thursday. Those campers and faculty who remained took up the spirit of NHMC and together created new activities and experiences, bringing the week to a close with grace and enthusiasm.
Despite these challenges, the 5 Best Reasons to Come to NHMC still shone strong. We did fall in love with our instruments all over again and found our best musical buddies. Our multi-talented faculty were stellar as we stretched our musicianship while playing with others. Immersed in music, we still had a Darn Good Time!
We regret was that we could not honor Pete Sutherland's passing in the way we had planned---a gathering, reflection, and special community Crankie to honor his role in all that has made NHMC such a special experience. And so we will do all we had planned and more in 2024.
So here are a few memories of camp days, a reminder of and for our wonderful musical community.
