Because it can go for days without eating any food, a Siberian tiger can eat about 45 kilograms of meat at one sitting - the same as half a kangaroo!

Tigers are carnivorous animals (their diet only consists of meat). In addition, they are predators, that hunt and demolish a variety of prey. An important component of this species' diet are large bodied mammals: deer, wild pigs and buffalo. Nevertheless, when this type of prey is not available, they feast on smaller creatures (such as lizards and birds), other predators' prey and carrion. Due to reduced amounts of prey, tigers are occasionally forced to kill livestock to eat. Consequently, humans often kill tigers in retaliation.

In conclusion, this fascinating feline has many remarkable appearance features, which enable it to be a victorious predator in the wild. Tigers occupy a diverse variety of environments across the continent of Asia. Despite this, these wonderful creatures have been classified as an endangered species because they face a number of threats: habitat loss, increasing population and poaching. Therefore, conservationists and governments are co-operating to change laws and protect tigers. Hopefully, population numbers will increase and there will be a more positive future for these incredible animals.

Tigers, the well known cat with stripes, have many adaptations to help them survive in their habitat. These large land mammals can grow to approximately 4 metres long and can weigh between 75 and 300 kilograms. These creatures are covered in distinctive, orange fur with dark stripes on to help them camouflage. Moreover, this animal has dark ears with white spots on (that look like eyes) so they are less likely to be discovered. This species has large, padded paws to enable them to patrol uneven terrain. Furthermore, they have long curved claws for ripping flesh and climbing trees. Many of these features allow the tiger to hunt and devour it's prey.

These fascinating creatures can live up to 20 years in captivity but can only survive for a maximum of 15 years in the wild.
