The sport of bobsleigh began in 1897, when the world's first bobsleigh club was founded in St. Moritz, Switzerland. In 1952, a rule was made to limit the weight of the team. This is when bobsleighs got lighter. Bobsleigh teams consist of two to four people.
The first woman's bobsleigh event was held in 2002. The bobsleighs were ridden with partners.
Bobsleighs got their name from the way teams bobbed forward and back to increase their velocity, or speed, in the beginning.
Flap
Bobsleighing can be a two man sport. One pumps down on that flap and the other steers, then they switch.
The sled is iced so the rudders can slip down it easily. With the force that the sleigh is going it can cut corners easily.
