Economic and social progress over the last century has been accompanied by environmental degradation; a driving force of the global economy rests on the use of the natural environment and resources in a way that continues to have destructive consequences on the planet. That’s why in this magazine we aim our community to recognize the impact of food wasting at home and at school and the problems that it could have, but also considering some solutions and giving tips to reduce this problem in our near context. All of this is related to some Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) but in specific the goal 12 that is about responsible consumption and production.
In our first article you will understand what the SDG’s are, you also can find when these goals appeared, besides its importance and the impact in the cities around the world.
The second article is related to goal 12 that talks about worldwide consumption and production. In the third article we present the results of a field research we made at home and at school with some reflections about the problem. If you are part of the people that waste food or you have to do it sometimes, article 4 will give you tips to reduce food wasting.
As a bonus, you will have the opportunity to listen to a version of the song “Shape of you” by Ed Sheeran talking about food waste and play an interactive game about it. We hope you enjoy our magazine!

Sustainable development
AN OVERVIEW
By: Cielo de los Santos
Is there a solution for the environmental, political, social and economical problems in the world? Yes! There is! They are the Sustainable development goals! but…
What are the SDG’s and why are they important?
They were adopted in 2015 with the objective of ending poverty, achieving peace, justice, prosperity in the society, and taking care of the planet, ensured by 2030. These goals take into account that the development must maintain the balance of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
They are important because these goals are going to change our minds, to change the lives of the future generations, to transform the world, to combat and end with the injustice, environmental, political, and economic problems, to help us to grow and build a better future, with quality of life and good spaces to the development of the living beings.
The world is suffering from a lot of problems and everybody is suffering the consequences, even living creatures that are not causing these problems like the animals and plants. The human being is not just ending with the environment is also breaking the peace and fostering corruption, we have to reflect what is going to happen in some years if we don’t take actions against those problems since now, scientists already told us that the ice of the Antarctic is going to disappear, and polar bears and other animals are going to be in danger of extinction thanks to that. The global temperature will continue rising and in consequence not just we as humans are going to be affecte, the animals as well. Pandemic has increased hunger and poverty, the food production in the world was interrupted by this virus and this affected the food distribution however in places when the food is apparently enough the food waste is unbelievable, the food is going to continue being wasted and those ones who don't have food will keep suffering of hunger, the inequal distribution of food and overbuying make more difficult the situation of food, in 2019, 38 million of children under the age of 5 were overweighted or obesed, approximately one third of the food produced in the world is wasted, in Europe and America waste by consumers is between 95-115kg per year, while in Africa, South and Southeastern Asia only 6-11kg per year, if we save the globally food wasted we could feed 870 million hungry people in the world.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Now you know what SDGs are about so let´s focus on the objetive 12: Sustainable consumption and production.
What is goal 12 about?
This goal is about ensuring that the production of the products is sustainable from the beginning of the process until it arrives to the consumer. That means that it doesn't harm nature nor humanity and generates as little waste as possible.
Why it matters?
Globally almost ⅓ percent of the food produced is wasted –equivalent to 1.3 billion tonnes worth around $1 trillion-, because it ends up in rotting bins of consumers or is spoiled by poor transportation.
5 trillion single-food plastic bags are thrown away each year, and each one lasts 50 year before decomposing.
In the infography, at the right side, you will find more facts and figures and some of the targets of the goal ◾
