The feel of the soft rug beneath me brings me back to the present. I can feel the rough book jacket on my fingers. The wind picks up and pushes a winter chill through the window. I stand and feel the sun against my skin which is unusual for December.

After I enjoy the sun a little longer I close the window. I lay on my stomach on the rug I got for Christmas yesterday. Before I start reading again I check the page number: 89. “Better to be the hunter than to be hunted. Even if you’re hunting yourself,” The page reads. Describing the fact that the main character insulted herself on the walls of the school bathroom.
