Eden Trip &amp; Farm and Country Visit As part of our topic work, we visited the Eden Project and learnt about different types of plants and where they grow.&nbsp; Our workshop involved an investigation into food miles and the environmental impact our everyday shopping has on the planet.&nbsp;&nbsp; To consolidate our farming knowledge, we received visitors from Farm and Country who taught us about local farming and growing / harvesting techniques.

Our final wake &amp; shake of the year - a big thank you to Mrs Miles for running our fabulous dance sessions every Friday morning. 

Northcott have had a fantastic year and it has been a pleasure to teach them. Myself and Mr Healey have been incredibly impressed, not only by their academic progress, but by how much they have matured too. We have had some fantastic experiences this year, from our star gazing night at the start of the year to our Greek day and our recent Eden Project visit. Northcott have participated in these with enthusiasm and have always made the most of the learning opportunities we have in year 5. Myself and Mr Healey would like to wish all of Northcott a happy and enjoyable Summer holiday and a great start to year 6!

As part of our transition activities for Year 2, Year 5 held a Q&amp;A for our Year 2s. Well done Year 5, Year 2 are feeling much more ready to join us in September.

Bude Primary Academy Junior's Half Termly Celebration Bulletin

Summer Term 2 - Tuesday 6th June - Tuesday 25th July

How time flies!&nbsp; I still have vivid memories 6 years ago of new starters walking through the gates and now as they approach the end of their time here with us in Poppy class they are getting ready for their new learning adventure after the summer holiday.&nbsp; They are ready for their moves which is testament to the all-round progress they have made with us.&nbsp; We all wish them the very best of luck! My Poppy Class beanie has been formally ‘retired’ and will hang, with many thanks to Mr Hodge as one of our greatest Poppy friends, in class as a reminder of my time at the ARB helm.&nbsp; It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the ARB.&nbsp; The role has been challenging, inspiring, and ultimately extremely rewarding.&nbsp; Without doubt, this has been as a result of the determination of our amazing pupils and the trust and support of their equally incredible parents.&nbsp; I cannot thank you, and the Poppy Class staff team, enough for sharing in our many learning journeys together.&nbsp; I wish you each and every one of you all the very best for the future. Go well everyone - I am certain that you’ll give Jo, our new ARB teacher, all of your support.

The final Splash page for the wonderful Wanson children. They have been an absolute pleasure to work with this year and have achieved amazing things both academically and socially. There are so many highlights but Adventure Bude and Bristol residential were very special. Mrs. English and myself wish the class all the luck in the world as they begin their new adventures.

We were so lucky for some of our students to have been given the opportunity to go on a surfing trip during their recent return visit to the brilliant ‘AdSurf’ at Big Blue.&nbsp; It is Poppy Class moments such as these that make our jobs so worth while.

Our PTA have been super busy this half term with our Friday ice lolly sales, sports day refreshments, Bag2school collection and our fabulous Summer Fair. The fair and the summer raffle raised over £1600. Thank you all so much for coming along and having a good time! A big thank you again to Celsius Food Co for cooking all of our tasty sausages, thank you to Brendon Arms for donating the sauces and napkins and to Chadds Foodsmiths for selling us the food at a discounted price. Another BIG thank you to all the local businesses who kindly donated prizes. And lastly, a HUGE thank you to the wonderful to the sea shanty performers who wowed us with their beautiful voices. A wonderfully huge thank you to our fabulous team of PTA volunteers. Without them none of the fundraising successes this year would have been possible!

Our lessons haven’t stopped over this period. We’ve been writing biographies about David Attenborough, created pop-up books in DT, designed and priced our own Lunar Theme Park in Maths, created our own VIPERS reading sessions, have run football and athletics sessions in PE and learnt about lifecycles in Science. “This year has been great; the Lunar Theme Park design has been amazing!” “I’ve really enjoyed making the pop-up books!” “I enjoyed Aspire Games – it was amazing!” “I really enjoyed Sports Day because team Yellow Octopus won (for a second year in a row)!!!” “This year has been great – the topics have been outstanding and creative!”

Storm Tower We were invited by the community to join the Storm Tower project. We have looked at the history of the tower and its attraction to Bude. The children entered an art competition where they had to express how they felt about the storm tower being moved. We had some absolutely beautiful pieces.

Well! We started this half term with a Kapow - straight off to Exeter Museum! Here, the children were immersed in all things Roman Britain. Seeing and handling the genuine Roman artefacts really is a humbling experience and has been something which has allowed us to really hang all the knowledge we have learnt since. In English, we have written some wonderful journals. These were set during Roman times. Our model text saw us visit the gruesome gladiators. We then used the language and experiences of our Roman feast for our independent writing. We have really loved doing our art projects this year and look at the results! We combined watercolour, cloth and sewing to create these fabulous, atmospheric pieces of artwork. In PE, we were lucky enough to have Chris, from Cornwall cricket. He was FANTASTIC. We learnt so many fantastic skills and had SUCH FUN! In science, we have continued our learning about light. We used UV beads to learn about the rays from the sun we can’t see and how we need to be careful because they can damage our skin and eyes.

This half term, we have been out and about a lot!&nbsp;&nbsp; We went on a trip to the library which was very interesting.&nbsp; We also did paintings of the castle in the drizzle! We had a cake sale to raise money for the RNLI.&nbsp; We ate lots of yummy cake.&nbsp; We had a week of swimming sessions at Splash.&nbsp; It was a really tiring week but our swimming has improved lots! We had Area Sports and Sports Day with lots of effort and athletics. &nbsp;We chose football for our final PE session with Mr Brown.&nbsp;

WOW! This has been one awesome year and one extremely fun half term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone one involved in inspiring, teaching, supporting and nurturing our children into more confident, independent learners who are more ready to experience this world.

Cakes My oh my....scrumptious cakes. The children loved the baking unit that we did as part of our maths learning. They showed their wonderful collaboration skills through sharing out tasks, measuring, mixing, stirring, whisking and decorating. They overcame the challenge of real life problem solving situations and did themselves proud. Great job team!

A fabulous sports day, thank you to all of our parents and carers who joined in the fun. A BIG well done to team octopus who won this year's event.

Wow, what a fantastic year we have had at after school club. We have watched you all grow, smile, laugh and most of all you have made us smile.&nbsp; On Wednesday we moved into our new base (Crooklets) and It’s been a pleasure to have old and new faces join us. We have enjoyed making chocolate milkshakes, cress people, Christmas and Easter decorations and so much more. We would like to wish you all a happy summer holiday and look forward to seeing you all in September

Life Cycles Over the term we have learnt about the life cycles of plants, flowers, birds, and butterflies. Over a 6-week period we watched caterpillars grow and metamorphosis into butterflies, which we released into the school flower beds. &nbsp;

Our class assembly This half term we had our chance to perform a class assembly. It was a combination of humour, dance moves, guitar riffs and a class written play about the tragedy of Icarus and Daedalus!

Picture book loveliness As authors this term, we wrote our own children’s picture book. The pupils planned it from scratch by choosing inspirations from their own favourite children’s story. We then used book creator on the computer to design illustrate and publish. The icing on the cake was watching them read their books to the year 3’s and the year 3’s being in such awe as they listened to the older children catapult them into another world. Truly gorgeous!

To Bude Library, thank you for allowing us to visit and learn about the library system and books you loan.&nbsp; Thanks for the wonderful Viking books you shared and the great quiz which we all enjoyed.

Thank you to Chris from Chance to Shine for helping us to develop our knowledge and skills of Quick Cricket.&nbsp; We used everything you taught us at our cricket tournament.&nbsp; Thank you to Bude Cricket Club for enabling us to use your grounds.

Aside from all of this, in English, we have written a persuasive brochure for Bude, printed an Anglo-Saxon design in art, completed a report on whether we would like to be an Anglo Saxon or a Viking in our Curriculum Project, learnt about angles, shapes and co-ordinates in maths and sewed a book cover in DT. &nbsp;&nbsp;What a half term we have had!

MAAFA The children have shown real empathy and maturity through this project. As historians, they have looked at those turning points in history that made the difference and studied how using the past has affected how we view the future.

Wow, it’s the end of the school year already! What a brilliant class Crackington 22/23 have been! We’ve had a busier half-term than ever before, featuring all sorts of trips and events. To start with, we went to the Eden Project as part of our Sow, Grow and Farm topic. We had an amazing time doing the food sustainability workshops and exploring the domes. Next up was the Aspire Games. What a day of sporting activities! We’ve also had South West Water in to lead a workshop, plus Royal Cornwall leading a farm-based activity for us in the hall. Alongside this, we’ve also had an Olympic rower into school and have had first aid and defibrillator training with Jay’s Aim. We also had an author visit us with Master Owl, plus our day at Sea Pool School! And that’s before we even mention Sports Day! What a busy time!

Year 4 had a morning of cricket at the splendid Bude Cricket club, playing on the real pitch.&nbsp; We had a tournament of 3 cricket games for each team.&nbsp; This was followed by sand sculptures on the beach.&nbsp; It was a lovely sunny day! We also had an excited and nervous transition morning with Mr Osborne. Sandymouth are feeling excited about starting Year 5.

Watercolour painting Following our topic of Sow, Grow and Farm, we practiced and improved our watercolour painting skills.

Finally, we would like to thank you all for the support you have given us this year, your children are fabulous.  We wish you a safe and happy summer.

Well, the end of another school year and we are feeling so sad.&nbsp; Summerleaze have had the BEST year of learning and we are so proud of everything that you have achieved.&nbsp; We will miss you all very much.

Well done to every class member for the resilience and determination that you showed with your swimming lessons.&nbsp; You all improved your skills and we were so proud of your attitude towards this! 

Thanks to the RNLI station for our fun packed session for Year 4.&nbsp; We learnt a lot of things that are important to all of us, as we are so lucky to live by the sea.

A big thank you from the RNLI team! Our school council organised a fabulous cake and secondhand book sale raising money for this fabulous charity. They raised over £150 in total. A fantastic effort! As well as setting up and running the event on the day they also created all of the advertising and publicity for the event. This term, the school council have also taken part in interviews for new teachers. They wrote questions and then interviewed candidates on the day. They were absolutely amazing and demonstrated real maturity alongside a great sense of humor! Mr Clarke would like to say a big thank you to the school council for an amazing year. They have been fantastic and have shown real dedication and resilience.

This term began with our amazing school trip to RAMM, where we embarked on our history project 'Emperors and Empires'. During this trip, the pupils learned about the Romans' way of life and their clothing.

We have continued this project in our English and reading sessions. The children have been reading the story 'Iliona – A Diary of a Roman Slave Girl'. In these sessions, we have written from the first-person perspective of Iliona, who describes her experience of watching gladiator fights for the first time. Additionally, we have written diary entries based on our Roman banquet.

We wish our Year 6 pupils all the best as they move onto the next part of their school journey. You will be missed hugely, we are so proud of each and every one of you!

In science, we revisited the topic of 'Light'. We honed our observational skills to determine which materials made the best mirrors. We also learned about sun safety by experimenting with colour-changing beads. Following this, the children were given the task of creating the best hat that would protect them from harmful sun rays. Furthermore, we combined Art and ICT this term. The children thoroughly enjoyed making moving pictures out of paper and using them to create animations.

At the start of June, we enjoyed a fantastic visit from the author Rob Holmes. He read his book - Master Owl - and practiced some mindfulness techniques with the children.

As we come to the end of another busy year, I am so proud of everything we have achieved. Looking through this edition of The Splash it is evident that our school is a place where children feel safe nurtured and valued. There is fun, laughter and learning and the children get opportunities to explore the world around them. As they journey with us, our pupils become confident independent learners. &nbsp;This continues to be our mission. We will be saying goodbye to a few of our colleagues and of course our wonderful year 6’s. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours and know they will always carry memories of their time at Bude Juniors. Take care over the summer everyone and we will be here to welcome you on Wednesday 6th September to start another exciting year. Thank you as always for your ongoing support.
