INTERNATIONAL DAYLoading...
Loading...
On Friday the 19th June we had our international day. First the whole school queued up in the hallway getting ready and in place waiting to walk down to the event. Throughout the hallway you could hear everyone talking, mostly about how excited they were, soon everyone was called out country by country to show their countries flag (and some people had beautiful national dress/costume on too!). We walked out waving our flags with pride, with music playing in the background, 1 by 1, every country was called. After all the countries were called the nursey kids did a performance about crawling to every continent. It was so cute! They were cuter than puppies. Then the whole school gathered together singing the song ‘You can count on me’ by Bruno Mars. All the parents were filming whilst cheering for their children. Then came the dance. ‘We like to move it, move it, we like to MOVE IT!’ It was really fun. When it was finished, everyone scattered like ants, eating all the food, mostly the Japanese food. There was lots of food from lots of countries, like fudge, carrot cake, pizza, sushi, ice cream, and of course Slovene potica too.
Then the day came to an end with everyone packing away, you could hear all the food wrappers putting thrown away, remaining food wrapped up and some last bounces on the bouncy castle. Around 3:15pm everyone had left. All the cars were gone, the kid's tummies were full. Then the parents did not have to make dinner that night.

Dear readers, As our school year comes to a close, it is normal for us to remember all the wonderful times we have had, while marvelling at how quickly time has passed. This year was special in its own way, as things finally got back to normal after two years of wearing masks, we finally got to see each others faces again, as well as enjoy school and our lives as we should.
This publication is our way of celebrating this year and sharing our happy memories with you and each other. As you read on, you will learn about our experiences, see samples of our creative writing and get to know all the things we hold dear. From the books we enjoyed reading to where we think one can find the best ice-cream in Ljubljana, this newsletter has everything to help you understand these awesome adventures from our perspective.
Have an amazing summer.

School Grown Plants
By P2E
P2E learned about life cycles of plants and how to grow plants. We planted many seeds, including: carrots, radishes, beans, basil, dill, sunflowers and poppies, and spent weeks recording the changes. One bean plant grew over 60 centimeters after 2 weeks! We love our plants and hope they will give us flowers and tasty vegetables soon!

Exploring the City
Where to eat on Fridays?
Open kitchen is a group of stalls in Ljubljana that sell food from all over the world. It is located in Pogačarjev trg 1.
Open kitchen was developed in 2013 by the owner, Lior, who wanted to find a way to bring together the best of Slovenian food in one place. But he didn’t want just any Slovenian food, he wanted the best food Slovenia has to offer. And what do S2/3 students think about it?
Neja Loncarski, S3
Last Friday we went to the open kitchen for English class. First, we walked around a bit to see what the place has to offer. We saw a lot of different stands and in the end, it was really hard to decide what we will have. I chose Pad Thai from Roza Slon. At first, I thought it wasn’t going to be that good, but it turned out to be fantastic. In fact, it was so good I could go there every Friday if I had time. I recommend going there and getting the Pad Thai or something else if you’re not a fan of Thai cuisine. I’m sure you’ll find something that suits your taste since there are so many things to choose from.
DID YOU KNOW? Pad Thai was created in the 1930s in Thailand by Plaek Phibunsongkhram, who was the prime minister at the time. The dish was created because Thailand was focused on nation-building. So, he created this dish using Chinese noodles and called it Pad Thai as a way to galvanize nationalism.
To sum up, I just want to say that the Open Kitchen is worth visiting because you will experience the world in one place, and you won’t be disappointed.
Luka Grgič, S2
When we went to the open kitchen, my eyes fell on the wonderful pancakes, big and great and they were called crepes from cafe Romeo. The crepes were first made in the 13th century in Brittany, France.
Maks Pavšek, S2
In English class, we went to the Odprta kuhna. There, I ate very delicious dumplings with shrimp. I love Chinese and seafood, so it was perfect for me.

Ljubljana Castle
P3E students have successfully conquered Ljubljana Castle! First, we met with our guide who took us to the different parts of the castle and explained their purpose. We took a closer look at the draw bridge and famously hidden tunnel. We even climbed the stairs to the top of the tower and looked at the knight's armour. Finally, we were shown how to make our own bows and arrows.

Not sure where to get ice cream in Ljubljana?
S1 L2 students did the hard work for you and went to different places in the city centre to explore the options.

Grefino is a self-service ice cream bar where you have a choice of 8 ice cream flavours and 102 mix-ins and toppings. It has a possibility to sit there. It is open from 11 am to 9 pm and can be found at Nama.
I chose a small cup of mango, strawberry, and chocolate ice cream and for the topping, I added fresh strawberries. The mango and strawberry flavours were fruity, refreshing, and rich. The chocolate was flavourful but could be creamier. The price of my cup was 1.44 €.
The way it works is that you choose how much ice cream you want, then you weigh it, and you pay for your ice cream. All flavours and toppings were available, so we gave Grefino a 4.5 rating. In the future, they could have a greater variety of ice cream.

Cacao is an ice cream place and bar located at Petkovskovo Nabrežje 3, open from 8 am -10 pm.
Cacao has a star rating of 4.5.
If you like chocolate, you (should) check it out but if you like strawberries I do not recommend it because the taste is commercial-like.
For a small scoop of ice cream with one flavour, it is 2.50€ and half-half is 2.90€.
IT CHARGES TOO MUCH!
The chocolate was really good, but it was too hard.
The cashier was not nice.
Instead of making new ice cream flavours, they should buy new fridges!

McDonald’s
Grefino Ice Cream Cups
McDonald’s is a fast-food company that serves ice cream, hamburgers, fries...
We went to McDonald’s because it is one of the only places that open at 8 am in Ljubljana. It is open from 8 am to 12 am and it is centrally located on Čopova street.
We chose McFlurry Oreo ice cream that was good but a bit too cold. Both the flavour and the size were good. The flavours are all the same, but they just add different toppings. We gave McDonald’s a rating of 4.1. Yet, if you end up in Ljubljana early in the morning or late at night and you want ice cream, this might be the only place to go.

Ice Cream Reviews and Ratings
P5E have been on a mission … an IMPORTANT mission to find the best ice-cream in Ljubljana.
We have tried a lot of ice-cream shops, and we’ve tasted the best of the best, and just the rather good.

IMPORTANT
THIS IS ESSENTIAL INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have decided CACAO is the best for the following reasons:
1. it has the most flavours,
2. reasonably priced for the portion size,
3. the flavours are creative (although not all good),
4. they have 3 diabetic ice creams and over 10 vegan options, so really there is something for everyone.
LOLITA was nice because it had more options than just ice cream, it had lots of cakes, but it only had 2 vegan options and only 7 flavours, but they were all delicious Ruth’s opinion.
VIGO is also delicious; it is arguably the best in Ljubljana but doesn’t have as inclusive options as Kakao. Although they are very experimental, you can get a surprisingly good combination and not to forget the chocolate on top.

Bajabas.
