Olwethu was born into a family that didn't have many privileges. She lived with her grandmother, grandfather, two aunts and her uncle because her mother was away for school. When her grandfather passed away, there was no one to support her financially, so her grandmother tried really hard to get her into a good school willing to help them with a sponsorship. Olwethu was the first child from her village to join Royal Drakensberg Primary School.
