THE UNITED NATIONS Institutions and THE AGENDA 2030
The organisation. In 1945, after two world wars, 193 countries decided to create an organisation for peace. They wanted everyone in the world to have food, medicine, a home in a safe place and dignity. In the UN building in New York, members vote for the secretary general, the leader who must always work for peace.
In 2015, the United Nations (UN) together with people from universities, governments, the business world, and also children, wrote an Agenda for the sustainable transformation of our world by 2030. This agenda has five P’s:
PEOPLE There must be zero hunger and poverty. There must be clean water, clean energy, medicine and a safe place to live for everyone. There must be equal education for boys and girls.
PLANET We must take urgent action against climate change to protect nature, eco-systems and life in the oceans. Our methods for producing food must be sustainable.
PROSPERITY For social progress, everyone, men and women, must have a good job and there must be less inequality between countries and also inside countries.
PEACE & PARTNERS There must be peace and justice for all people, so countries must work together as partners for a sustainable world. Together we can make our world a better place!
