Ride of My Life

Staying calm isn’t easy. We are climbing so high that&nbsp; Rob and I can almost touch the clouds.

It is the first day of summer vacation. My brother Rob&nbsp;and I are at an Amusement Park. Right away he leads&nbsp;me to the roller coaster.

Standing in line I hear the screams from the kids&nbsp;on the roller coaster as it races past me. I can feel&nbsp;my hands tremble in fear.

Woosh!&nbsp; I feel the wind against my face. I feel as if we are&nbsp;moving 200mph. My brother is waving his hands&nbsp;in the air as I grip the harness tightly.

I nudge Rob and say, “ I want to go again.”

Just when I think the ride will end, the coaster suddenly&nbsp;banks to the right. We enter the corkscrew behind the waterfall.&nbsp;

I dedicate my book to my mother, Jayne, who took me on my first roller coaster.

Rob says, “This year you are tall enough to ride it.&nbsp; Let’s go!”&nbsp; “But I’m SCARED,” I yell. &nbsp;Rob scolds me and says, “Don’t be a chicken, Matt.”

My heart feels like I am running a marathon as we slowly&nbsp; climb upward. I listen again to the sounds of the coaster saying, &nbsp;“ Look around at the beautiful sights and relax.”

I feel like I am going down a drain. Water splashes all around.&nbsp;

We follow the crowd of people down the ramp to a path.&nbsp;The path takes us to a photo viewing area. The photo of&nbsp;Rob and I on the roller coaster shows my face contorted with fear.

We have left the corkscrew and I give a sigh of relief.&nbsp;I can see the end is near.

I feel weightless as we are lifted from our seats.&nbsp;Please car keep us safe! I close my eyes and feel the&nbsp;harness give me a snug hug. Over the top and down&nbsp;the track we begin.

Rob and I take a seat. The harness clicks into place.&nbsp;It’s too late to run away.

I hear a voice. I realize the roller coaster is trying to&nbsp;calm me. It’s says “Listen to my song as I move along&nbsp;the track, clickety clack, clickety clack.”

The coaster slows and we slide to a stop. The harness is released&nbsp;with a click as if it was saying, “Goodbye.”&nbsp;Thank you car for keeping us safe.
