Hatfield Marine Science Center Estuary Investigation

Having citizens partake in science gets the community more involved in the work being done. It can provide more support to the program to further increase the amount of work being put into it. Have more people know about it can increase donations to improve equipment and education. Having the community understand what the science is, and how to do it, can get more people to be aware of the issue or opportunity that is provided. Having a new generation involved with the work of modern science can improve the amount of new scientists and how they think to do things.

Wolf Haven is important nowadays because it spreads the word of saving wolves, coyotes, and even other species like birds or sea life. When there are endangers species it is difficult to get people to pay attention with all the other endangered animals in the world. Having a physical location where people can go to learn about the endangered species, and what to do to help can increase the awareness of the problem. Before coming to Wolf Heaven, I didn’t even know that their are lots of wolves that are endangered. Having people see the wolves in person and with the wolves moving around freely can build an emotional connection between the human and the wolf. Having an emotional connection can increase the donations and number of volunteers.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

Our design was built to be fast and elegant. It mimicked an airplane in the way it flys. It has the to front and back motors on the sides. The up and down motor was placed on the tail of the R.O.V. It was also aerodynamic, so it could zip through the water. Our design looked good, but we couldn’t put floats in the right spot to balance it. To fix that problem, next time I would add a beam that goes over the R.O.V that can be used to balance it and keep it afloat. We could also improve the structural integrity of the frame so it didn’t bend to break off.

When you are fishing for different things like planktons, you can use a separator to keep unwanted marine life out of it. It blocks bigger fish, small seals or dolphins, or any other thing that you don’t want to get caught in the net.

Cheese is made of 3 main things, salt, water, and of course milk. Salt doesn’t give much reason to make the main factory here, sbut the other ingredients make it a prime place to be. There are fields upon fields of cows to produce their dairy. It is also on the coast which helps with their water issues.

Fort Stevens has been my favourite place, and the most informational for me. I learnt many things like how and what Disappearing Riffles are and how they work. It is one of the most interesting things I learnt. It also learnt what a 10 inch or 6 inch cannon means and what it is. The most amazing things I learnt is that they made a cannon that could face 360 degrees so it could defend from any angle of attack.

Travelling South with a stop at Cabela&apos;s!

My video is a Timelapse of going over the biggest bridge I have seen. It connects the state of Oregon and Washington. It is located on the Columbian river and British Columbia is named after it. The place I started the Timelapse is where settlers stayed for shelter during really bad storms and weather.

In Cabela’s there was a mountain of stuffed animals. Inside the mountain there was aaquarium inside it. There were alteast 20 fish in there and they were all quite large. When I first saw the fish I thought it was a screen or something because some seemed to be see through.

For my experiment, our criteria is to find how fast a crab is based on a variable you choose. The variable we choose was male/female. Our hypothesis was right with the females being 4 seconds faster on average. The females had the fastest crab with a 3.09 seconds, and the males had the slowest with around 25 seconds.

Cannon Beach is most well known for Haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the largest monolithic intertidal rock in the world.

Having Tsunamis in Oregon is more common then other places. Having a Tsunami machine can help educate people on what is truly is, and what to do. It can also show that damage it can cause to your property

Activities like zip-lining or other high in interest activities can bring money and tourism into the small town. It can boost it’s own income, and other businesses income.

Our group was never the fastest runners, or the quickest thinkers, but by the end of all the quests we had learned to work together. If someone had a weakness, someone else would get them through it. If someone was stuck we got through the problem or riddle together. The reason we were able to work like that is because we knew we probably weren’t going to be first, and that finishing as a group last is better then one of us finishing first and getting eliminated.

While we were at the yurts some of us went down to a nearby beach. When we went it was sunset, and when we left it was dark.

I haven’t seen many wolves before. I also want to know how similar they are to dogs. Also, learning about a new animal is cool.

I have done some ziplining before and I loved it. It also will give an amazing view of the surrounding 			area.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

When the First Nations encountered the colonists a trade started. The trade was able to send goods over to Asia, which further more increased the buyers available to the colonists selling goods. The seemingly endless supply of furs was one of the building blocks for the Pacific Fur Company to form. It was established in 1810. The founders of the company sent over a merchant ship to build a trading post, and named it Astoria after their primary stockholder.

If you are reading this final page I am hoping you have read through the whole journal first, if so you would know I went to Oregon on my first PLP field study. A thing you might not have known is that I haven’t gone to Oregon in many many years. When I heard we were going to Oregon I thought it would be we sit somewhere and do school work for 6 hours then go back to the cabin and do more work. Turns out I was kinda right, but also wrong. We ended up doing a lot of work, but it was hand on work that was fun to do. Having that fun aspect made it much more enjoyable for me. I’m not a fan of school trips, at least before this one, but now I love them.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

Definitely. I think with modern ships people use to cross the Atlantic, I would be able to cross the bar with them. Along with it being difficult, I would need a pilot, but even then I would do it. It would be a fun experience and build character

The tide pools at Yaquina Head is a protected ecosystem. When you go somewhere that is a protected ecosystem, you need to leave is untouched to humans. That means that you must leave it as you came, so no taking any parts of the ecosystem, animals to rocks.
