Tillamook Cheese Factory and Izzy’s Buffet

Tillamook Creamery was founded here because of the weather. The Oregon weather, as we know, is very wet. Very, very wet. Rain helps green grass to grow. And what likes green grass? Cows. And what makes dairy? Cows.

I am looking forwards to seeing a sea lion. Even though they aren’t the cutest, I just like them! I like the noises that they make, and I like how they just flop around everywhere.

I am excited to see the Wreck of Peter because it looks cool. It has a cool story and cool history. It reminds me of something that I would think was a cool playground as a kid. It also shows how something so old can still be used to this day.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The First Peoples had a whole culture. A whole world, that to them, was there’s. Then the English came, and ripped that away. The Chinook people, who live on the Oregon Coast, had Western Red Cedar, which got torn away. 

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

My group picked colour as our variable. We found out lots of things about this. The purple turned out to be faster than the green, which I was surprised about. I thought the green would be faster because of the green crabs were a bit smaller then the purple, and I thought that the little legs would move faster then the purple. But the purple crabs were way faster!

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Japan.

NorthWest Trek is very cool. It’s a very cool place that highlights the natural beauty of the North West. This place is very important for many reasons. One of those reasons is that a lot of the animals are endangered, and would be in a lot more danger if they didn’t have this protective place. It also teaches people about these animals. The park also gives people a way to get outside and have fun! Overall, NorthWest Trek is a extraordinary place!

Hello! My name is Amy. I am a Grade 8 student in a super cool program called PLP. Recently, we went to Oregon, and this is the book that I made! Here is a little bit about me! I play Ringette, which is basically a mix between hockey, lacrosse, and basketball, and it’s on ice. It’s confusing. I love to read. I really like musicals. I went to Keats Camp this summer, which was so fun I also did a super fun acting intensive at Bard on the Beach I really like painting, not as much detailed painting, but more abstract stuff I also really like calligraphy/lettering One of my hobbies is acting, as well as costume design My favourite place is either Vancouver or Victoria My favourite song is She by Dodie. Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

I think that my group for the R.O.V. challenge worked well together. I think that we all had some different levels of experience in terms of building a robot, but our final product showed how hard we worked. We went through a couple of different challenges, like when Lindsay, the coordinator, said that we needed a protective bar over the motors. That set us back a little, but we worked through it. I think that our design was good, and that we had a solid performance. I’m pleased with our R.O.V.

At Fort Stevens, it was all connected. Every single part was like a chain. The man in the Command Tower would spot an enemy ship. He would send a message to the plotting table through a telephone. The plotting team would make a plan, and then send it to the commander. The commander would give orders, and then the soilders would follow. Then that would repeat.

I liked these Quests. I think that my group definitely developed and grew together as a group as our trip progressed. At the beginning, our group definitely struggled. We had people talking over each other, people not listening to each other, all kinds of things that did not at all help our team. We did not solve the practice quest at Fort Stevens, or the first real quest at the campground. Those two we did not work well together. Then, for the 3rd quest, a miracle happened. We worked together! I don’t know if that is because of the job assignments, or that we learned something from our previous quests, or something else. But it worked! We all helped, and we got the message and the stamp. A special shoutout to Evelyn for finding the clue under the sign! After that quest, we knew how to work together. We flew past the Newport Quest, with our only mistake being that we didn’t fill in the extra challenge box. We still solved it! Overall, I think that out group worked well together after we figured out each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Once we knew how to work together, everything was easy!

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

I don’t think I would want to ‘Cross the Bar’. Honestly, I would not want to risk my life to cross a river. I love boats, and I love waves and going over them in boats, but not 60 foot waves. I also think that in the future, we can develop better boats and better ways to cross, and then I might do it.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

In the Visitor Centre, there is a Tsunami Generator. I think they have this because it teaches children, particularly the kids who live on the Oregon Coast, about how to build secure buildings that will stand the test of a tsunami. It also shows people, and kids, who might never experience a tsunami, how tsunamis work.

Cannon Beach is most well known for Haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the 4th largest intertidal rock in the world.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Animal Adaptations

I think that animals adapt to their environment to survive.They adapt so they can live more comfortably. If they couldn’t adapt, they wouldn’t be able to survive for that long because if their first habitat gets destroyed, they won’t be able to survive in a new environment. When animals adapt, they grow new skills and body parts that help them not only survive, but also strive. Some animal adaptations that I can think of are rabbits with their ears, and fish blending in with their environment.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Assemble a Whale

I liked this activity. I think that we worked together and ended up with a good final product, but there was some stuff that we should work on. Something that really stood out to me as something to work on was listening to everyone. Of course, it’s hard to listen to a group of 23 loud Grade 8’s all at once. We also sorta split up into groups, like one group worked on the front, another on the back, and another on the ribs. That is a good way to get things done fast, but we didn’t really work together as one big team. We did do a good job on the spine, I was happy with that. We got a bit mixed up on the ribs, but we solved it in the end. Overall, I am happy with how we assembled a whale!
