WHERE I STARTED...
My journey began on August 27, 2018 when I started my first course, EDLD 5302. However, it really started back in April when I convinced myself that it was time to go back to school.
Yes, I had to convince myself, I recall telling myself that I was NEVER going back to school. In actuality it wasn't that hard to convince myself once I saw the Digital Learning and Leading program that Lamar University offered. After reading the description I thought this is not school this master's will be fun.
As I started my first class I truly enjoyed deepening my knowledge on the growth mindset and setting the stage for myself as I start this adventure. Thankfully, I have participated in a book study on the growth mindset prior to this course and have already introduced it to my students. How cool was that?
This was a great way to start as I felt like I was ahead of the curve and it boosted my confidence levels as well as put me in the right frame of mind, a growth mindset. So far, I'm off to a good start and I know I made a wise choice.
WHO WAS INVOLVED
My family has been my biggest supporters throughout this journey. My husband was assigned the job of editor in chief and my youngest son was an actor in some of my videos. There were times I wanted to just show off my work and they were willing to look, read, or watch whatever I showed them. At other times I would ask for their feedback so I could see from their perspective what it is I could do to improve my work or to make it represent my point better. They were always will to help whenever I needed it.
Over the past eighteen months my family did make a lot of sacrifices while I was in school. My husband definitely had to pick up more than his share of the parenting duties, my boys had to fend for themselves a few times (or more), and when they would "hang out" on the weekends I wasn't able to partake or they would choose to wait until my weekends off. I truly appreciate the love and support my family provided me during this journey and I will be forever grateful to them.
THE HIGHS...
~ My ePortfolio is something I will cherish the most. It is a reflection of my learning and it is unique to me as it showcases all my work. I'm very proud of the work I have done and that it is MINE.
~ Getting a job as a classroom technology designer. This was one of the main reasons for getting my master's degree... and I GOT IT!!
~ Graduating with a 4.0 GPA!! What an accomplishment that will be, dependent on this last class, as I had to juggle being a mom, a teacher, an army reservist, a wife, and a student.
