Building Strong Foundation Skills
In Primary One, we begin our learning journey by exploring the key foundations of literacy and numeracy. These include a wide range of knowledge and skills which are essential to successful learning across the curriculum.

In the following slides, we have mapped the progression for learning in literacy and numeracy. Each child learns at their own pace and will reach the different milestones in their own time. We aim to work in developmentally appropriate ways, planning active and playful learning opportunities.
'Children are like tiny flowers. They are varied and need care but each is beautiful alone and glorious when seen in the community of peers'.

Friedrich Froebel
From learning the foundations to applying the skills in....
“Language and literacy are of personal, social and economic importance. Our ability to use language lies at the centre of the development and expression of our emotions, our thinking, our learning and our sense of personal identity. Literacy is fundamental to all areas of learning, as it unlocks access to the wider curriculum.”
