Building Strong Foundation Skills

In Primary One, we begin our learning journey by exploring the key foundations of literacy and numeracy. These include a wide range of knowledge and skills which are essential to successful learning across the curriculum.

In the following slides, we have mapped the progression for learning in literacy and numeracy. Each child learns at their own pace and will reach the different milestones in their own time. We aim to work in developmentally appropriate ways, planning active and playful learning opportunities.

Phonological Awareness

Phonological awareness is the ability to hear and manipulate sound structures within words. Developing phonological awareness skills is important as these skills are vital when learning to read and write.
