Introduction
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Byram Hills Senior Explorations is designed to provide students with the opportunity to become productive and responsible citizens of the 21st century. The program enables students to extend their learning beyond the school. It offers an opportunity for students to apply their high school knowledge and skills to an independent career exploration in an area of personal interest.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the program, students will become more:
* Self-directed, self-reliant, and confident learns,
* Creative thinkers and problem solvers,
* Responsible citizens,
* Effective communicators,
* Collaborative workers, and
* Knowledgeable about careers and their own career interests.

INTERNSHIP PROCESS - ALL OPTIONS
Teachers who have only seniors in their classes become faculty advisors for our students (approximately 35 teachers this year.)

Students are assigned to an advisor in January based on the students' schedules. Faculty advisors will serve as liaisons with parents and sites.

We have three formal meetings with the students throughout the year.

Ms. Croke is available during C block, lunch periods and via email. Ms. Sautner and Ms. Triolo are available in the main office and via email. Please reach out with any questions!

2021 THREE PROGRAM OPTIONS

A - Traditional Internship Program

B - Remote Program Project

C - Hybrid Internship Program
Introduction (cont.)
TRADITIONAL PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This option has the Senior securing a site that can accommodate 20 hours of meaningful work for the student in person, virtually, or a combination of both.

The Senior will still meet with their faculty advisor weekly and will need to complete the expectations form, resume and daily journal.

A final presentation is also required.

REMOTE PROGRAM PROJECT
This option allows the Senior to engage in a meaningful career exploration project that incorporates valuable real life scenarios. It is fully remote with some virtual components.

This option will have the Senior completing research into potential careers, preparing and practicing interviewing, amongst other assignments.

A final presentation is also required.

HYBRID PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This program option has the Senior secure a site that can accommodate 10 hours of meaningful work for the student in person, virtually, or a combination of both.

The Senior will still meet with their faculty advisor weekly and will need to complete some written assignments in coordination with the internship they have chosen.

A final presentation is also required.

SITE SELECTION - TRADITIONAL and HYBRID
Recommended list of sites that have been used by students in the past.

Community members contact us to offer internships.

Networking with family, friends, and contacting organizations of interest.

Traditional offerings (politicians/businesses/law firms) are often used.

Areas of pursuit: Philanthropic, College/Career and personal interest.

*Virtual internships are possible/encouraged this year.

SELECTION OF PROGRAM OPTIONS
We ask Seniors and parents to discuss the three program options that are available this year and which fits their situation best.

We also encourage the exploration into Traditional and Hybrid options early, as many sites are offering limited internships.

We will be asking to confirm which option the Senior will be participating in by January 15, 2021. A google form will be sent.

** Please note program options may need to be adjusted.
