All the Colours of George Gray

One day, George and his friends were kicking around a grey ball in the park, like they do every weekend. But this time, something odd happened. A small purple boy walked up to them. “Hi I’m Theo!” he said. Then he asked, “Can I play too?”

But as they started running, George tripped, fell into a small hole, and passed out.

They chased him all the way back to the colourful town, where George’s other friend Oscar yelled, “Don’t let us catch you on our street ever again, it wasn’t made for your shoes to walk on.”

Every morning his parents would tell him, “Be careful on your way to school, avoid the colourful town at all costs.”

One morning he asked them why the colourful people were so scary, so weird, so different.

Theo’s mother was baking something in the kitchen, and George was invited to dinner. As he ate with them, and heard them talk, he started to realize that these people were not so terrible after all!

The food they made tasted wonderful! The sound of their laughter was more beautiful than any he had ever heard! And the colour of their skin seemed to make the room light up.

When dinner was queiting down, George asked Theo’s dad, “Why do you look different than the people that live in Grey City?”

George liked the sound of that, and he left dinner feeling more alive and cared for then ever before.

The only thing that worried him was the colourful people who lived in the town at the centre of the city.

So Peter, George, and the rest of their friends began to chase him.

So every day, George would walk the long way to school, to avoid going through the colourful town and seeing the bright faces of the people who lived there.

The group of friends looked the strange boy up and down, then George’s friend Peter pointed at him and laughed. The rest of the friends joined in.

“Haha you playing with us? Why would we ever want to play with someone like you?! Go back to where you came from!”

His parents simply replied, “Have you seen their skin? It’s way too bright! Have you heard them laugh? It’s way too loud! Have you smelled the food they make? It’s way too sweet! They just aren’t like us at all.”

Theo walked away sadly, tears running down his face.

“They left you.” he said, “You might want to try to find yourself some nicer friends.” George was scared, but at the same time, this Theo kid didn’t seem so scary.

As he got home and climbed into bed, he looked at his hands and noticed they were more colourful than they had been earlier in the day, and that made him smile.

“Look at this guy,” Peter said. “He doesn’t belong in this neighborhood. He and his people are always walking through our territory, and someone needs to chase them out.”

Soon Theo’s parents came looking for their son, and the boys began to run away, laughing.

Theo’s dad kindly replied, “Our souls just shine so brightly that colours of the rainbow run through our blood and tint our skin. The truth is, anyone can be colourful, they just need a little bit of extra love.”

There once was a small colourful town, surrounded by a large grey city. Within that city lived a boy named George.

The next day, George and his friends saw Theo walking down the street of a grey neighborhood.

He woke up in a strange house, it was night-time, and his friends were nowhere to be seen. Theo sat next to him.

He lived in a beautiful grey neighborhood, in a lovely grey house, with his wonderful grey parents and on the weekends he hung out with his amazing grey friends.

Everything was perfect in George’s life.
