Oprah Winfrey had a sad childhood. She was born January 29, 1954. Oprah grew up in poverty in rural Mississippi to a single teenage mother. She later was raised in inner-city Milwaukee. But at a young age she was molested and became pregnant at age 14. Her baby died in infancy. But this did not hold her back.

Oprah first started as a news anchor and reporter for Baltimore's WJZ-TV in 1976. After attending Tennessee State University she got a job at WLAC-TV. As both the youngest anchor, and first black female anchor. But on September 8, 1986, The Oprah Winfrey show aired on national television for the first time. This was a huge success for Oprah at this time. Her talk show made her one of the most powerful people in show business. This also made her very wealthy, and one of the most influential women.

In 1985 Oprah had a major role in a movie named The Color Purple. After the movie, it turned out she had a real talent for acting. Since she did a great job she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. After this, her talent was recognized by many people. Let me name some movies she was in. She was in the Princes and the Frog as Eudora, Bee Movie as Judge Bumble, A Winkle In Time as Mrs. Which, Charlottes Web as Gussie, and our Friend Martin as Coretta Scott King.

Now In Days

Oprah now in days is living her best life she could ever have. Now on her show she interviews big celebrities like Adele. She also likes to stream her shows now. She streams her show on Apple TV Plus and on Discovery Plus. Oprah now also lives with her long term boyfriend in Montecito, California. But back to her talk show. Since then her show has been a major hit. After all the problems she has had she deserves what she has now.

Oprah's School

In 2007 Oprah opened a school to help people in South Africa. Oprah named the school Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for girls. This school was made for grades 8-12. When the school opened 3500 female students applied. But 152 got accepted though. Also the school was not doing to well because 7 students got suspended for doing inappropriate things to other students. The school is now really good. It is still open today.
