Philosophies I believe are important and should be used in the classroom and experiences I've had during field placement with them
  1. Progressivism
What is it?
  • Students gain knowledge through doing and then reflecting on their experiences.
  • Learning being achieved through asking questions

What is does for students
  • Develops enlightened students
  • Develops intelligent students

Examples within my 291 Field Placement
  • Students can pick who they want to work with
  • New weekly seating chart
  • Hands on learning
  • Incorporating technology often

Examples from class
  • Using real world connections every class
  • Questions are always encouraged
  • Frequent group work

How I want to incorporate this into my classroom
  • I want to emphasize student-centered learning, active participation, and the incorporation of real-world experiences into the curriculum
2.Constructivism

What is it?
  • The active role of learners in creating their understanding and knowledge of the world. It suggests that students actively construct their own knowledge through experiences, relationships, and reflection.

What is does for students
  • Helps them become intrinsically motivated
  • Helps them become independent

Examples within my 291 Field Placement
  • Students doing hands on learning with the 10 mats
  • Learning and getting ideas from students
  • Culturally responsive minds and talking about different cultures

How I want to incorporate this into my classroom
  • I'd like to stress active learning, inquiry, and the idea that kids build their own understanding via experiences
Examples from class
  • Using real world connections
  • Open ended questions
  • Student Centered Projects

3.Perennialism
