One day there was a dolphin named Augie. He lived in Maui, Hawaii where it was very warm. He has a bunch of friend but feels left out because he is not able to do surf.

Kai went to the beach one day to get better at surfing. Kai absorbed the warmth, as if he were a plant absorbing the sun’s energy. He felt really good about himself because he was getting pretty good.
“I should teach people how to surf,” thought Kai.
“That would be a nice thing to do.”

The next morning he went back to the beach, determined to be a great surfer. When he surfed, it was like he was the wave. He saw a lot of people surfing, so he decided to go to a different area that had less people. When Kai reached the other area of the beach, it was quiet as a mouse sneaking away from a cat. The palm trees were as tall as a giant’s leg and the ocean was as blue as the clear sky. Kai’s face slowly changed calm to surprised when he saw who was surfing. He saw some regular people surfing, but he was shocked to see a majestic dolphin on a surfboard.

Augie swam around, watching some people and dolphins surfing. As he was watching them, he saw a man that was really good at surfing. Since Augie is a dolphin and can’t live on land with humans, he doesn’t know the man’s name. Augie’s friends know how to surf, so Augie swam up to the man as fast as he could to ask him if he could teach him how to surf.

Ahhh!! You can talk!!

Yes and I need your help. My name is Augie.

“Hi there, Mr! Can you please teach me to surf?” Augie asked him. The man was very shocked when he heard the dolphin talk.
“My name is Augie!” Augie said innocently.
“M-my name is Kai,” said the man feeling a little bit braver.
“I guess I could teach you to surf!” Kai answered. “Yay!” Augie yelled with joy.

The next day, Augie started his first day of training with Kai. “Let’s do this!” shrieked Augie, ready for anything. Kai taught Augie every step of how to get on the board and how to surf a wave throughout the entire day, stopping only for so Kai could get water and snacks. Augie was a natural at surfing small waves, but whenever he tried to surf a big wave he would always fall off his board.

“You can’t always do something on the first try, you have to practice! This is only day one,” said Kai to Augie encouragingly. Kai was so encouraging it was like he was positive energy in a human form.
“Thanks, Kai,” Augie reacted. “I’ll keep working until I become a great surfer!”
