Preparing your child for Nursery

Starting Nursery is a big step and for some children it may be the first time they have spent time away from family.

Gaining independence in toileting and dressing can go a long way in helping your child to feel confident in their busy new day.
Things like zips, buttons, coats, socks and shoe buckles can all be tricky for little hands and will need time to master, so spending time before starting nursery will give your child valuable time to practise and develop these every day skills. Obviously our caring staff are always on hand to help and support too!

Starting Nursery is an exciting time for your child and we look forward to being a part of this special journey.

Attendance

Although pre-school education is non statutory, there is a proven link between attendance and children’s attainment and it is important to establish good habits of attendance so that children can take full advantage of the education offered. Regular and full-time attendance is essential if children are to benefit fully from nursery life. Therefore, if your child is going to absent from nursery, please call the office 01752 772984 to report their absence.

Snack

At Nursery we always provide milk and water along with healthy fruit /vegetable snacks. The children have access to this throughout their session. High View promotes and encourages healthy eating, healthy teeth and healthy bodies. Please advise us immediately if your child has or becomes allergic to anything.

Lunch for 30 hour session children

All day children enjoy their lunches in our School Dining Room which helps prepare them for school life.
Please provide a healthy packed lunch that forms part of a healthy and well balanced diet. We are a NUT FREE school due to pupils with severe allergies. We also encourage the use of reusable bottle and use foil instead of plastic food bags. Can we ask that if you provide grapes, tomatoes etc. you please cut them in half lengthways, as they are a choking risk for small children. Please avoid anything with nuts. Some children can have a severe reaction to nuts. For lunch ideas please visit our school website.

What to wear

Children are active learners, so they need to wear clothes that allow them to move, run and climb freely and safely, promote self-help skills (don't require undue amounts of adult help) and allow them to engage in messy activities. Children are not expected to wear School uniform however, if you wish your child to wear this please visit the School website. Please remember to clearly label all items of clothing.

What to bring

* PE kit - Plimsoles, shorts, T-shirt (PE kit will remain in school during the term and sent home during holidays).

* Spare clothes in case of accidents or messy play.

* Nappies and wipes if required.

* Book bag (optional, can be ordered via the School website).
Sun Cream and Hats

In the summer months we will provide your child with a sun hat and sun cream but if you wish to provide your own then please indicate on the enclosed form and make sure     everything is clearly labelled with their name.
