FOUNDING!

It all happened when the King of England gave his brother the Duke of York
permission to steal New Amsterdam from the Dutch and later call it New York.

Then the Duke of York gave his friends some land to colonize in the middle colonies. His friends later called this piece of land New Jersey.

The reason why the king didn't want the Dutch in New York because They were blocking his way to open up new trade routes.
So if they tried to go to New York then the Dutch would stop them.

Pennsylvania was founded by the Quakers a religious group that wanted freedom from the church of England to practice their own beliefs.
One quaker named William Penns father was owed a lot of money by the king.
Then William Penn's father died.
So the king decided to give the money to William Penn but William Penn refused and asked for a charter to start a colony in the New World. And he later named it Pennsylvania.
The King was fine with this because he did not want the Quakers in his country.

Harvard Founding!

Harvard was founded in 1636 and was named after a guy named Rev John Harvard.

After John Harvard died the school inherited half of his estate and his Library.

A statue of John Harvard still stands today in University Hall in Harvard University. It is their greatest landmark.

It was founded by the Massachusetts Bay Colony when they voted to create a college.
