zBook Challenge

With curious minds, Lily and Ethan ventured forth, exploring each booth with a sense of wonder. But it soon became apparent that this fair was not just about gathering information. Each booth offered a challenge, a problem that needed to be solved to move on to the next career.

The friends eagerly dove into the task at hand. They listened intently, absorbing the knowledge shared by the professionals before them, and applying it to the challenges they were faced with. Each solution they found unlocked a new understanding, leading them deeper into the world of medicine.

The next stop on their field trip was an agricultural engineering workshop, where they met Mr. Ramirez, an agricultural engineer. Mr. Ramirez introduced the students to the world of machinery and equipment used in farming. The students marveled at the sight of tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Mr. Ramirez explained how these machines were designed to increase efficiency and productivity in the agricultural sector. Unfortunately, while the students were in the shop, a tractor had broken in the process of cultivating the land. Mr. Ramirez had to get to work to examine and repair the tractor. The students realized that agricultural engineers played a vital role in making farming more sustainable and effective.

Nurses

Lily and Ethan moved on to the next booth. There they met a group of men and women who are nurses. The nurses described how they help to assess patient health, maintain medical records, and advise patients on disease prevention. They read the vitals-heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation, weight, and height-and carry out the doctor's orders to ensure the patients understand their personal care.

The nurses then explained the variety and level of education with nursing. Nursing programs are available at an associate's degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree, or doctorate degree. At each level nurses build on skills learned and can do more with the patients. At this booth, the students saw an assortment of stethoscopes and heart rate monitors displayed on the counter.

"Before you can move on to the next booth, you have a required task: measure and record your vitals," one of the nurses cheerfully stated. "Don't worry, we will explain the process to you, but first, let's explore the heart."

Heart Rate

zSpace Scavenger Hunt:
Nursery Grower

Measure your own resting heart rate. Place your pointer and middle fingers on the inside of your opposite wrist just below the thumb.

Don’t use your thumb to check your pulse, as the artery in your thumb can make it harder to count accurately.
Once you can feel your pulse, count how many beats you feel in 15 seconds.
Multiply this number by 4 to get your heart rate. For instance, 20 beats in 15 seconds equals a heart rate of 80 beats per minute (bpm).

Next, time yourself running in place or jumping for 1 minute. Now measure and compare your active heart rate to your resting rate.

Their final stop on the agriculture adventure was Green Sprout Nursery. Here the student’s met a Mr. Flower’s a Nursery Grower who raises and sells plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. Mr. Flowers described how he prepare beds for planting and tends to plants throughout their growth, transplanting them into containers for sale, pruning them, watering and fertilizing them, and keeping them pest-free. As he described his journey to become a nursery grower said he received a degree from a trade school and spent lots of time as an intern which included hands-on experience. While he was talking one of the student’s noticed a dropping plant tucked away in a corner. Brought to his attention, Mr. Flowers quickly sprung into action to care and tend for the plant.

Dental Hygienist

Traveling to the dental hygienist's booth, they saw displays of teeth, some with examples of cavities others with examples of clean and healthy teeth. Here they talked with the hygienist about the importance of oral health. Lily and Ethan explored how best to floss and brush their teeth. Plus, they heard about the importance of eating the correct foods to keep your teeth clean.

While there, they learned that all animals have to eat the correct foods to protect their teeth. Explore and learn all about animals and their teeth alongside Ethan and Lily.

Before they left, the dental hygienist gave them a free toothbrush and dental floss in a little care bag.
