I dinosauri comparvero sulla Terra circa 230 milioni di anni fa. La parola dinosauro significa "terribile lucertola". Alcuni erano feroci carnivori, che si nutrivano anche di dinosauri erbivori. C'erano dinosauri che vivevano nelle acque dei mari e altri che volavano; la maggior parte viveva sulla terraferma.Non tutti avevano lo stesso aspetto: alcuni erano ricoperti da squame, altri da corazze o placche ossee.
Tutti i dinosauri erano ovipari, cioè deponevano le uova.

Dinosaurs appeared on Earth about 230 million years ago. The word dinosaur means "terrible lizard". Some were ferocious carnivores, which also fed on herbivorous dinosaurs. There were dinosaurs that lived in the water of the seas and others that flew; most lived on land.Not all of them looked the same: some were covered with scales, others with armor or bony plates.
All dinosaurs were oviparous, that is, they laid eggs.

Il triceratopo è certamente il più famoso fra i dinosauri cornuti. Questo animale presentava una testa enorme con tre corni: uno tozzo e corto sul muso e due più lunghi sopra le orbite, diretti in alto e in avanti.
Il triceratopo aveva le ossa della parte posteriore del cranio molto allungate, a costituire un collare osseo.
Non è ancora chiaro se il triceratopo fosse un animale gregario, come spesso viene considerato, oppure solitario.
