Sports Sponsorship

On the 21st of March 2022 the Drumblade P6/7 class did a sports marathon to raise money for their residential to Loch Insh. Over the course of the day the pupils played 4 sports including football, rugby, dodgeball and rounders. The day ran like a tournament, whilst 2 teams were playing, the other two were inside doing quiet tasks such as, art and education games. These activities were important to relax, refuel and rest before a game.

Everyone came to school wearing their PE kit ready for a busy day. All pupils were split into teams. These were called: The Cheese, The Cherries, The Chocolate and The Cheeseburger.

Football was the first sport of the day, The Cheeseburger team showed great skills and won all of their games. After the break the class played rugby. Lots of tries were scored. In rugby there were 2 teams faced each other. The Cherries won 3 out of 3 rounds of rugby. Dodge ball was enjoyed by all. In rounders the teams merged and P6 played P7, it was a very competitive match!

Conclusion over all we earned £599 which is a great success! Thank you to all who sponsored.

Residential Extravaganza

In the last week of the 3rd term the P67 got to go to Loch Insh for their residential trip. At Loch Insh they stayed at Insh hall for the full week. They went on Monday and came back after lunch on Friday. At Loch Insh they did heaps of fun activities that the pupils enjoyed. The most popular activity was SUP (Stand Up Paddle Boarding).

At Loch Insh P6/7 were very resilient and followed instructions well which avoided too many injuries but we did have one person who fell victim to the dry ski slope, who is now ok.

This is P6/7 after lunch getting ready for there first activity.

After Loch Insh we did a survey seeing what everyone liked and what they didn't like about Loch Insh. These are the results.

Who was your favorite instructor?

What was your favorite part about the whole experience?

At Loch Insh we had different instructors for different activities. For Sailing some people had Kristy and others Murray. We had Alistair for archery and some people had him for problem solving. Dale took the rest of the groups for problem solving. Charlotte took us kayaking and Luke did skiing with us. But our favorite Instructor is Murray.

The whole experience was really great and fun. Some people's favourites were the activities and trying new sports, others were the rooms that they were in or eating sweets at bedtime! The food that we got was great and having no family around for a week was quite fun.

What was the worst part?

At Loch Insh, almost all the trip was good although sometimes things went bad... Mrs Berry woke us up early on the Friday as an April Fools joke! Some people did not have the best experience with some activities and somebody was sick at the back of the bus on the way back.

What We Ate
Supper
Over the week we had a variety of food to eat for supper. On the first night we had macaroni and on the second night we had steak pie and leading to the third night where we had burgers and onto the final night we had pizza.
Breakfast
Everyday from Tuesday to Friday we had the same breakfast throughout the week. There was a variety of foods for us to have for breakfast, such as bacon, scrambled egg, toast, beans, tattie scones, cereal, hash brown and sausages.
Lunches
Each day we got a packed lunch that the loch Insh team made for us. There were a bunch of flavour options. In the packed lunch we got a sandwich, a bag of crisps, a piece of fruit and a yogurt.

The whole school has been working on shows based on the fairy tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears looking at the story from different perspectives. The Nursery have been working on retelling the original tale.

P6/7

Primary 6/7 did a courtroom drama based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Goldilocks was on trial for breaking and entering, vandalism and theft. The class made everything from the script to the props. There was fierce competition for parts but everyone worked hard putting their acting skills to the test. Despite some difficulties along the way like sickness, P6/7 managed to work together to get this show on screen.

P4/5

Primary 4/5 turned a news article into a show. In the show they went out and interviewed Goldilocks' parents and neighbours to find out their version of events. They made their own costumes and props that ended up wowing the crowds, which Jacob really enjoyed. Even though some parts did not make it into the final cut, it still looked amazing.

P1/2/3

Primary 1/2/3 were doing the Goldilocks` story from the bears point of view. They used their imagination to make their scenery and props. Their performance was very good, especially how they switched up different actors for the main characters in each scene so that everyone had a part to play.

Nursery

The Nursery were doing the original Goldilocks story. They were practising their reading and acting skills while they recorded their show. They also learned some songs and makaton along the way. Their way of filming was completely different and unique to the rest of the school. We think the nursery did an amazing job memorising all of their words. Some of the P1,2,3s enjoyed helping the Nursery with their makaton.

Watching

Once all the films had been edited and finished the whole school came together to watch the different versions that they had worked on. There was a surprise in store when the teachers produced some popcorn, Lucy and Cameron particularly enjoyed this. There were laughs and cheers during this great cinematic experience.

All the hard work was worth it because the shows looked very good and professional. Even if there were mishaps it made it funnier. Everyone really enjoyed making it too! The show was released 28th April 2022.

How We Got The Fish.

We won a Participatory Budget competition which was open to all the Huntly Schools Cluster. The Participatory Budget was a competition for schools in Aberdeenshire to raise support for mental health. We had to come up with an idea and plan the project, including writing a convincing piece of writing to encourage other schools to vote for our idea. We also had to research and create an itemised list of what was needed including prices to explain what the money would be spent on. After voting we were very excited to find out we were successful in our bid and we were given £1500 to buy fish and all the necessary equipment including 5 tanks. We gave a tank and fish to both Forgue and Rhynie Schools.

You may be wondering why we chose to get fish?
The reason behind choosing fish is because it is calming to see fish swimming peacefully around. Cameron said, “I think the fish are very calming and fun to look after.” Lucy told us, “That it was good to get fish to give the pupils a responsibility.” The pupils enjoy sharing the feeding and cleaning of the fish on a rota.

Where The Fish Came From.

Pets at Home supplied us with the fish, fish tank, decor and food. The fish tank has gravel and a stone arch for the fish to swim around, it also has some rocks which are piled together. There are different coloured lights in the tank, not only do these make it look nice, the blue light is meant to help them get to sleep. There is an integrated heater to keep the water warm, because they are tropical fish which need the temperature around 20 degrees celsius. There are 12 fish in each tank including neon tetras, rainbow guppies, black neon tetras, one pepper corydora and male guppies.

Neon Tetras

Neon tetras can grow one and a half inches and the life span is usually five years. Neon tetras are easy to spot because they are neon. Neon tetras can eat meat and plants but they are fed on fish flakes because they have everything a Neon tetra needs.

Pepper Corydoras

We only have 1 per tank but they clean the gravel and eat the poo. They can grow up to 6cm . Pepper Corydoras live for five years.

Rainbow Guppies

Rainbow guppies can grow from 0.6 inches to 2.4 inches. Rainbow Guppies can live up to two years. Constant light can kill or annoy the fish. Male guppies live two to five years and grow to 2.5 inches. We only have male guppies because we don't want any baby guppies .

Black Neon Tetras

Black Neon Tetras are 1.5 inches long. They have a black and silver strip down the middle of them and that is how you tell the difference between them and Neon Tetras. They live for five years.

How We Look After The Fish.

Everyday in the morning someone feeds the fish one pinch of food, the food has everything that the fish need to survive. Also every day we turn the white lights on in the morning and the white lights off in the afternoon. When we are cleaning the tank we take out ten litres of dirty water then clean any dirty decorations and the filter pads and beads. Then if you think the gravel needs cleaning clean the gravel with the gravel hoover. Then you return all of the cleaned decorations, filter pads and beads. Next, you have to replace all of the water with tap water, remember to add tapsafe. Then add two good bacteria balls.

What The Pets At Home People did.

When the Pet’s at Home employees brought the fish, they taught us how to clean the tank, how to feed the fish, making sure the food is spread out all over the surface of the water and the amount to feed them, just a small pinch. They told us what type of fish we have, how to recognise them and they gave us an information booklet on how to check for problems with the fish and tank. They came to all of the schools classes and gave us a fun and educational talk about the fish, the pets at home people were very kind and they gave us booklets and balloons. The whole school are enjoying looking after the fish and Alfie agreed, “I really like the fish because they are really cool to look at.”

How to clean the fish tank.

FISH!!

You must not bang on the glass or pick up the fish if you are cleaning the tank. Don't pour the water on the fish or to fast as it will kill the fish if they are under where you are poring. Most importantly if you scoop up a fish leave the the net or the jug in the water till the fish swim out.

WARNINGS TO SAVE THE FISH

First, you take out 25% of the water (that's 10L). Then you take out the stones the bridge and the plants and clean/wash them in the water you take out. Once you have done that don't tip the water out because you need to clean the filter in it, then you can tip it out. And fill the bucket with water up to just about the top. And then add 2ml of tap safe chemical.
