We tied things of various weights to sticks and rails. We think this will measure the wind strength and direction.

We sorted through owl pellets to find and identify the bones of tiny prey.

We are decided how many flowers we will need for the bouquets. This depends on how many bridesmaids there are and how big the bouquets will be. If each flower costs £1 what will it cost?

If the bride gets 10 flowers and 4 bridesmaids get 5 each it is... I need to see this and count by 5s.

The wind will have to be blowier for the milk bottle to move, but not that windy.

We received a distress call from the Queen of Fairyland who has heard we are experts in troll hunting.

We learned that there are lots of different jobs you can have in a hospital.

The children decided how much of what ingredient to add.

So What? Huge improvement in descriptive sentence making.

So what? The children came up with their own ideas and theories, created an invention and tested it out. Shared sustained thinking over a whole day.

So what? Long focused engagement in colour mixing.

So what? Our art isn’t all the same. We choose our materials ourselves.

We used salt to absorb watercolours to create some great artwork.

So what? We learnt that there is lots of technology used in hospitals to help make people better.

We could put on jet packs and fly over the fairytale forest looking for clues. Brown.

So what? Development of teamwork, mapping, problem solving, storytelling.

So what? Children previously unaware that mixing two colours would make another. Extension of vocabulary to describe colour through teacher conversations.

So what? Our parents feedback that their children are sharing their learning at home.

So what? Children setting up their own role play area gives flexibility and ownership.

How will we know if someone is having a stroke. What should we do?

So What? By making this film, the children reinforce their learning and can teach others about what to do if someone is having a stroke.

We researched what birds ate in an ebook, and fed birds.

Even if we got high enough to reach the clouds, they would have gone through the net like a ghost. You can’t catch a cloud in a net.

So what? If we want our children to be inspired to become scientists, they need to learn about some. We learnt about male and female scientists who made a difference. The children then feedback their learning in their own words.

We know that living a healthy lifestyle can prevent strokes.

Actually these gingerbread men will never break in the wind!

The discovery! Whilst playing in the glen the children built a bridge over a mysterious hole and then discovered a troll!

He’s strong, He has sharp claws, he sleeps at day and comes out at night, he cuts down trees. The size of a cat, sharp claws the size of a tree. His face looks like the Grufallo! Leo

A scary face, triangle ears and it has a nose for its eyes and 2 eyes for its nose. Angus

And that hole down there that we’re trying to dig. He’s in there. His face is a green version of the Grufallo. He’s in that hole somewhere.Harry

We’ve been using book creator to write our own books.

We’ve been following our own interests on birds.

We used Merge cubes to play games and find out about the body.

This project has transformed the children’s reading engagement and use of vocabulary and storytelling.

So what? The children tested their ideas, used their imaginations and had fun.

Some children wrote our own rainbow inspired story. The children worked in pairs and all completed a page of narrative which was scribed for them and illustrated by them.

The following pages contain documentation of our learning about colour.

Every freely chosen reading engagement of over 1 minute during a whole day was logged. Some children read for up to 10 minutes. This included focusing on the pages of a book, reading aloud, reading with friends and role playing story time. Reading along with iPads was also included although in April all children read straight from the paper books.

We tried to match the different shades of green by mixing yellow with blue. Then produced works of art in green!

So what? By exploring different shades of green the children developed their vocabulary.

To understand the importance of hand washing in hospital, we are doing an experiment using bread.

So what? We are linking our science experiment to what we have learned from Ellie’s work experience in the stroke unit.

Ellie is on work experience at the Stroke Unit in York Hospital.

So what? Our class elephant is making links with the community supporting our world of work learning and teaching us about people who help us.

We talked about flower bouquets and made our own arrangements.

Class novel-Esio Trot In this novel Mr Hoppy has a lovely balcony garden. He loves Mrs Silver who loves her tortoise. This story is all about how she thought her tortoise was growing.

The children were curious about rainbows.

The whole class wrote this story. We dictated the story. Mrs Jalland scribed. We illustrated it and Mrs Jalland read it back to us. We used some of the information we have learnt about trolls in our research.

So what? We are being creative and linking our learning to our play.

I like that me and my friend can read the same book and turn the pages at the same time.

There used to be too many books. Now it’s easier to choose so I read more.

We could make something to measure the wind.

A light thing will move in a tiny wind. A heavy thing will only move if it is really blowy.

So what? Children coming up with their own ideas and expressing them confidently.

We could catch a cloud in a net and see how far it goes with a measuring tape.

Millions of them under the nettles. Why don’t they get stung?

They have tiny wings and spots. They don’t seem scared of us.
