Summer 2
Head of School Welcome
Welcome to this week's newsletter!
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your new Head of School. I am very excited to join such a great school and work with such a dedicated team.

I have lived and worked in the local area for many years now and was previously Head of School at Whitemoor and I have been a senior leader at Bugle school for the last six months.
Mr Freckelton will be working closely with me as lead teacher and I know you will want to join me in thanking him for all his hard work leading the school so well over the last few months.
I am looking forward to meeting you all in person over the next few days.

Reception - Mrs Kearton
This week Menabilly have been delving deeper into the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We worked together to build our own story map! We had to work out the beginning, middle and end of the story and sort the pictures into the correct order. We were wonderful storytellers!!
We continued in the journey of building and planting our garden area, adding some butterfly loving garden seeds, some more sunflowers and some runner beans!
We have thought further about the concept of Lifecycles and this week explored the metamorphosis of a tadpole to a frog 🐸!
It prompted a discussion about animals who have babies who do not look like the adult.

More adventures to follow next week….!
Have a great weekend.

Year 1 - Miss Bird
This week year 1 have been very busy. We have continued learning the story of 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' and we now know all the talk for writing actions. In maths, we have begun learning about doubles and had fun finding our 'double partners'. We have been observing how our broad beans are growing, some of the seeds are opening up. We have all been working extra hard in phonics and have been really impressing the adults with our knowledge of new sounds!

Year 2 - Miss Warn
This week year 2 have been enjoying the sunshine and working really hard. We enjoyed learning about fractions including quarters, thirds and halves. Lots of us even found three quarters!
In literacy, we enjoyed learning more of our Jack and the beanstalk story and writing in the past tense, finding and using adverbs and powerful verbs. We have still been working on our spelling and punctuation to help with our upcoming SATS.
We have continued learning about plants and have dissected plants and reassembled them in science and in RE continued learning about Muslims and what they believe. We learnt about Ramadan and what Muslims do during Ramadan.
You should have received the SATS timetable via email from Miss Warn. Please try to keep up your child's good attendance over the next few weeks especially. Thank you for your support with this already!

Year 3 - Mrs George & Miss Metcalfe
At the start of this week, Year 3 learnt about how to run a relay race. They worked on sprint starts and passing the baton, it was very tiring work! On Tuesday, they had their first cornet lesson, which was super fun, learning how to hold the cornet correctly and the different parts of a cornet. In literacy, we have been looking at features of a newspaper report, we collected eyewitness statements from survivors of Pompeii through the use of hot seating. In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of the 2, 4 and 8 times table and noticing patterns between them to problem solve. Well done to those children who read 4 or more times last week. It would be lovely to see more children reading at home.
