ADVENTURES AROUND THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA

In the early morning group attended ICT training courses. 

The whole afternoon was spent at The Anıtkabir Mausoleum. It’s the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (founder and first president of the Turkish Republic). But it’s also a grand feat of design and a great example of the Turkish style known as the Second National Architectural Movement.&nbsp;

In the morning, the group visited the aquarium where they saw many kinds of animals, from sharks to flamingoes. 

Later on, they created some presents and souvenirs. It was a memorable week!&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cappadocia is an area in Central Anatolia in Turkey best known for its unique moon-like landscape, underground cities, cave churches and houses carved in the rocks.

The first day, a welcome ceremony was organised by the Cypriot school which included a virtual tour in the school, singing the school project’s hymn and presentation of Cypriot culture through traditional songs and dances.&nbsp;

The day ended with a getting to know each other activity in which guests had the opportunity to interact both orally and written with the use of a digital Padlet board.

DAY 3: EXCURSION: ‘MEET L’ALBUFERA’&nbsp;&nbsp;

Group took a bus directly to Albufera Natural Park. They visited a rice museum, they took a boat through the lake and learned about all the fauna and flora. 

They also went to the beach and had some fun together.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The whole day was spent in Thessaloniki, the second biggest city of Greece. A visit was made to the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, one of the largest museums in Greece. The visitors were able to experience the unique collections of ancient artifacts. 

Afterwards, the team headed to the statue of Alexander the Great and to the White Tower, the landmark of Thessaloniki. A coffee break on a boat overlooking Thessaloniki from the sea side was particularly enjoyable. 

Walking on the promenade, visitors had the opportunity to enjoy the route and on Aristotelous Street they were left free to roam the market until noon, when all the groups reconnected and had lunch together in a traditional tavern, Bit Bazaar.

Next stop was the church of Ag. Dimitrios who is the protector of the city, with its imposing size, the frescoes, the chariot of the Saint and the catacombs.

Adventures around the Mediterranean Sea

All the missions were warmly welcomed at the school by a group of students who, dressed in traditional costumes, offered sweets and liqueurs to the guests, as was customary in the old days. A warm welcome was followed by the school's anthem Erasmus, sung by all participants. After that, the title of the meeting was explained: "The daughter of the sun" which have been borrowed from the famous poem by Kostis Palamas, "The olive tree". Also, the choice of the Erasmus mascot of the school was explained which was no other but the Goddess Athena who offered the Athenians the olive tree as a gift. Afterwards, videos were shown on the topic of the meeting, the olive tree. Then, in the school yard, hosts danced traditional dances. After that, all the guests participated in two ice-breaking games. The teams competed in games: The Wheel, the Bottle Thief and the Lava. The winners were crowned with an olive wreath, as was customary in ancient times in Greece during the Olympic Games.

 A break followed, with the offering of many delicacies by the parents of students of the Greek school and after being guided to the school facilities, all the missions left school.

The leased bus took them to the village of Nikiti where they visited a beekeeping cooperative. There, they watched a video about honey and bees and after that, the visitors had the opportunity to taste different types of honey, buy some and get some as a gift. Finally, they enjoyed Greek cuisine in a traditional tavern in Psakoudia.

On Wednesday, the Cypriots presented the production process of halloumi, the traditional cheese of Cyprus.

After that, the guest countries presented their traditional cheeses and a related recipe. The day ended with digital games (memory and matching games) in Educaplay regarding the traditional recipes of the partnership countries.

All the group together: portuguese, croatian, greek, turkish and spanish met in the river, Turia’s river in order to get to know each other. Cyprot were invited through an online call.&nbsp;&nbsp;

All together they did a city tour around the city centre, they visited: Serrano’s tour, Central Market, Plaza Redona, Llotja, etc.&nbsp;

They had a taste of the delicious potato omelette, in a traditional cultural place called Casal Faller. Later on, they had a taste of a very typical game: Pilota Valenciana, and they all played together. It was great fun!&nbsp;&nbsp;

Once upon a sweet day six girls met at a training course in Ankara, Turkey. They carried something related to food with them and they were strangely dressed. The girl from Turkey guided and hosted her new friends. They learned so much about that country and they had so nice time together and that they signed the "contract of friendship". When it was time to leave, their friend from Croatia invited the rest to her own country to get to know that better and to strengthen their friendship. They all were very excited and thought that it would be a great idea to continue this journey to the rest countries. Furthermore, they decided to write a diary to keep their adventures alive and to give the opportunity to experience these beautiful places, to other people who would read it.&nbsp;

A group of Croatian students sang and played the Erasmus hymn and there was a performance of Croatian folklore, songs and klapa singing. Klapa singing is a multipart singing tradition of the southern Croatian regions of Dalmatia. Multipart singing, a capella homophonic singing, oral tradition and simple music making are its main features. The main aim is to achieve the best possible blend of voices.&nbsp;

After lunch in school (The Taste of Dalmatia – traditional dishes),&nbsp;it was time for city centre tour: Diocletian’s Palace. Diocletian's Palace is the most famous cultural and tourist attraction of Split. 

Although called palace, it is more like a big fortress surrounded by walls and towers. It was built in the 4th century by Roman Emperor Diocletian who wanted to build a fortress to spend his retirement age. Today, the palace is part of UNESCO world heritage and includes the old town of Split.&nbsp;

The group also visited Ethnographic Museum Split. The museum exposes the ethnographic objects from the area of Dalmatia and the wider area. It has very valuable collections of folk costumes, jewelers, arms, household inventory, traditional handicrafts.

The first stop was the recently extended and renovated Water Pavilion in Porto City Park, whose permanent and interactive exhibition enabled group alike to learn more about water principles and water resources management in a playful way, rising their attention on the issues of climate change, water scarcity and pollution of the oceans by deploying new technologies. One of the main attractions was also the lab, where a monitor invited the audience to experiment and to explore in more detail project experiences.&nbsp;

After having a picnic at Porto City Park, provided by host families, it was time to have some fun by playing the project’s “Memory game” and a few traditional games. 

The rest of the afternoon was spent in Matosinhos, visiting a century-old sardines cannery, which besides representing one of the most elegant and historical structures of the city, is considered one of the most rare and beautiful functional canneries in the world to visit. 

The whole morning was spent at school where guests had the chance to attend two workshops. The first one was devoted to traditional sweets from Viana do Castelo and the participants were challenged to bake and taste some “Coquinhos” and “Pão de Ló”. In the second workshop, guests had the chance to paint the heart of Viana (the symbol of the city) in a mug, in order to make some souvenirs that will remind them of their stay in Portugal when they grow older.&nbsp;

After lunch, the group headed to Ponte de Lima, the most ancient Portuguese village, where they spent the afternoon in a farm (“Quinta de Pentieiros”). Several activities were carried out namely in the orchard, not to mention a seed bombing workshop and a horse-riding experience.&nbsp;

The group visited Krka National Park, Šibenik and Trogir.

The national park is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. The purpose of the park is primarily to serve science, culture, education and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its visitors. 

Šibenik and Trogir are two historic cities along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast.&nbsp; The Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik is one of the most significant and most beautiful architectural achievements in Croatia and was included on the UNESCO Cultural World Heritage List in 2000. Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites for its Venetian architecture.

In the early morning the group visited the Nadalina Chocolate Factory (factory of Dalmatian spices and chocolates with&nbsp;Dalmatian spices).&nbsp; The rest of the morning was spent in Salona, one of the most important archaeological sites in Croatia. The antique Salona is situated in the vicinity of Split in the Dalmatia region.

The whole afternoon was spent at school where guests had the chance to attend three workshops:&nbsp; - Making a traditional Croatian cake Splitska torta - Making Dalmatian souvenirs - The Spices and Herbs of Dalmatia

Cyprus was presented through videos and PPTs.

Then, the guest presented their countries.

At the end, a digital game in Kahoot was played engaging participants knowledge about the partnership countries.

Several experienced coaches from Surf Club de Viana, the first surf and bodyboard school in Portugal, assisted the participants in a bodyboard lesson. The activity on environmental sustainability previously scheduled was not carried out and the entire group could make the most of their experience in the sea.&nbsp;

After lunch in the school canteen, it was time to carry out brief presentations on each country’s gastronomy, culture and school, etc. Afterwards, the guests were organised into five groups, in order to play a Peddy-Paper called “The Food and Culture Games” in which several challenges tested their knowledge and skills in a funny way.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The group spent all day at a trip to Meteora, a region at the middle of Greece. Meteora are huge rocks with monasteries built high at their peak. 

They visited the Monastery of Barlaam and the Monastery of St. Stefanou and got acquainted with the elements of these monasteries with the help of a guide. They also enjoyed the magnificent view from the top.

Lunch followed in the village of Kalampaka located at the foot of Meteora and late at night they returned to Psakoudia and Ormylia. It was a long journey, but the experience gained was unique.

In the morning, the group visited Outeiro, a village located 25 minutes away from Barroselas, where they visited the Museum of Bread. Located in a former primary school, this place focuses on the life cycle of bread, from grain cultivation to bread production. Besides visiting the permanent exhibition, the participants had the chance to observe the preparation of corn bread in a traditional wood fired oven and to taste it with local honey. Then, they visited an ancient watermill where the grain was ground into flour.&nbsp;

After having lunch in the school canteen, the guests were shown the school greenhouse, the vegetables garden and the orchard. A cork oak, the Portuguese national tree, was also planted. The rest of the afternoon was spent with the construction of a collective mural having the sea and Portuguese sardines as the main theme. Each guest was given a blank sardine template, which they decorated and painted creatively according to their country’s monuments, costumes, traditional embroidery, etc.

The group presented food based on olive oil. They made a village salad and they presented the creation of buns. Olive bread and cookies were also offered to everyone. Then, all the group participated in the painting of the Erasmus olive grove using brushes, tempera and markers. At the same time the hosts prepared Greek donuts, called Loukoumades, in the school yard for everyone. Later, each country presented a traditional game in which guests from other countries participated. The Erasmus olive tree was planted in the school yard.

At noon, a visit was made to a nearby monastery where the nuns welcomed the visitors very warmly offering treats and giving information about the monastery and life there. The visitors were guided in areas of the monastery, where they admired wonderful mosaics and were allowed to enter the church of the monastery where they admired the ornate icons and the iconostasis. Later on, they visited the products showroom of the monastery and after they were given gifts of olives and soaps they greeted the hospitable nuns and were led for food and rest.

A group of Portuguese students sang and played the Erasmus hymn and there was a short performance of Portuguese folklore, followed by an invitation to all the guests to join the dancers and show their skills, while having some fun.

The rest of the day was spent in Viana do Castelo, where the group went on a tour to visit the city. They hopped off the bus at the interactive Museum “Fábrica de Chocolate” for an immersive and interactive learning and entertainment experience dedicated to cocoa and chocolate.&nbsp;

In the early afternoon the group visited the fish market and afterwards they were taken to the major attractions that the city can offer: the Santa Luzia Basilica, a monument located on top of a hill with such a great view over the city that it was rated by the National Geographic Magazine as the third most beautiful in the World;&nbsp;the Gil Eannes hospital ship, which started its activity as a hospital in 1955 and for decades provided all the necessary assistance to the Portuguese cod fleet that operated in Newfoundland and Greenland, and, last but not least, the Costume Museum, featuring the regional costumes of the Vianense municipality, namely the clothing items that farmers and their families used to wear.

In the second workshop, guests had the chance to paint with a unique technique: Turkish Culturel Ebru Art.&nbsp;

A virtual visit to a Cypriot bio farm was conducted followed by a digital game about the animals shown in the video.&nbsp;After that, Cypriot children presented two traditional games, rope pull and ziziros.&nbsp;

“Ziziros” is one of the traditional Easter games played in Cypriot villages for centuries. ΄Ziziros΄ means ΄cicada΄ (the insect) in Greek.

The guests presented a traditional game of its country. At the end of the day, some more digital games regarding traditional games of the partnership countries were played in Educaplay.

The last day started with a digital quiz in Quizziz about healthy lifestyle. Then, a workshop with photos from the partnership countries took place followed by the presentation of the photos.

After that, a digital game (quiz) in Kahoot was played engaging participants knowledge about Cyprus.

The day ended with the impressions of hosts and guests about the whole virtual week.

‘Let’s have a photo: Say… halloumi!

Found the friends traveling from the Bay of Panagia to Mount Athos and approaching it at most 500 meters, because it is forbidden closer, and to be informed about some monasteries and the monastic life. Pleasant company along the way was the plethora of gulls that received delicacies from the passengers of the ship and in the distance a few dolphins.

At noon, the boat reached the "Banana" beach of the island of Ammouliani, Chalkidiki, where everyone had the opportunity to enjoy skewers, salad and something o drink but most of all to enjoy swimming and games in the turquoise waters of the island.

On the way back, live music entertained the passengers and some children, accompanied by a Greek teacher, were encouraged to dance.

Day at school with presentations of each country. They had the visit of a Beekeeper, and guests enjoyed a conference about farming.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the afternoon they visited a big park where they played common memory game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The morning started with a seminar: The Healthy Lifestyle.

After that, it was time for workshops about Turkish traditional recipes and game cards.

- country by country - day by day - adventure by adventure ...lots of nice places and fun...

Group had a taste of the Valencian culture, they enjoyed dances and traditional music. They were delighted by the Erasmus hymn.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Later on, they had a workshop called ‘Artista Fallero’, in which they learned how to create figures for the traditional fallas. The figures created were related to Erasmus topic. Fruits and vegetables, mascot, etc. They had lunch in the playground, a delicious paella.&nbsp;

Before tasting the horchata, they had to discover what was the special ingredient of this drink. They participated in a break out activity in teams, and they all got to know: TIGER NUTS! They went to a museum and tasted it, it was delicious.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The first day, guests had the opportunity to attend&nbsp;a performance of Turkish folklore and Seğmenler Show, followed by an invitation to all the guests to join the dancers and show their skills, while having some fun.

The first trip was to Historical Ankara Houses at Hamamönü. They tried Turkish coffee and tea and many delicious traditional dishes. After lunch in school&nbsp;it was time for city centre tour: Kızılay.&nbsp;

The morning started with a seminar: The Health Benefits of Sport and Physical Activity and presentations about Famous Croatian Athletes.&nbsp; The group had fun playing traditional Dalmatian games, common games, attended workshops: Split dance and Making an energy smoothie.&nbsp;

The day ended with a karaoke concert prepared by the hosts.

THE END Erasmus + project: "European Food Adventures"

The partner-friends were welcomed by the coordinator of the project, Nikita Panagiota, whom she congratulated for the creative and noble cooperation during the three years of the project in the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, a group of students put up posters with the letters that created the words “European Food Adventures” which they hung on the wall in front of the audience. This was followed by a spectacular event with coloured sails and the music of the late Vangelis Papathanassiou, "The Conquest of Paradise", which indicated the flag of each country. This was followed by traditional songs and dances by children of 5th and 6th grades.

At the end of the students' presentations, each school was invited individually to greet and receive their gifts from the Greek school. This was followed by dances by a local traditional dance group, live music and songs by local artists that offered to entertain our guests for free. All guests were offered food and drink served by students of the school. The school's Parents and Guardians Association offered to help with the roasting of the meats. It was a beautiful and warm evening which will be engraved in everyone's memory along with all the experience gained during this week of hospitality in Greece (project coordinator).

The last day, group visited Sports Hall of Fame Museum. The museum pays tribute to deserving athletes of Split, trying to preserve and promote sports at all levels.
