The goal of sustainable consumption and production is to do more and better things with fewer resources
Sustainable consumption and production consist of promoting the efficient use of resources and energy, the construction of infrastructures that do not harm the environment, the improvement of access to basic services and the creation of ecological jobs, fairly remunerated and with good Labor conditions.
All this translates into a better quality of life for all and, in addition, helps to achieve general development plans that reduce economic, environmental and social costs, increase competitiveness and reduce poverty.

En el país, se calculó que se generan 4,1 millones de toneladas de residuos sólidos urbanos por año. En el año 2014, se incorporaron 245.000 toneladas a procesos de reciclaje, los recicladores de base analizados de Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca y Manta, aportaron con la recolección, acopio y comercialización de 124.855 toneladas de residuos reciclables al año, lo cual representa la recuperación del 51% del total de residuos sólidos inorgánicos reciclados. (IRR, 2015)

El Consumo Responsable tiene que ver con entender que los recursos naturales pueden agotarse. También tiene que ver con comprar de acuerdo a las tres erres (Reducir, Reutilizar y Reciclar) o elegir una marca por su precio y su calidad a la vez que por su respeto medioambiental o las condiciones de trabajo en su elaboración.
